  • Solar Silicon Conference: LDK Investor Group Reports  [View article]
I agree with gebby. I am looking forward to a Democratic administration with a Democratic majority in Congress, led by Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer of California who will push alt. energy very aggresively. This country is still the mother load for energy. China will wait for "grid parity" to occur before they start putting serious money into solar. Solar demand will be totally awesome in 5 years.

That's because he doesn't own FSLR. This is another in a long line of self serving Seeking Alpha postings by a number of contributors.

Why the chart on CY when it's really Sunpower (SPWR) you're talking about? CY is a semiconductor company which owns a large part of SPWR.

Off topic - Just think what might happen with solar (and other alternatives) when we get a new administration next year. China and India say they are waiting for us to get on the global warming bandwagon before initiating their own alternative energy programs. If they get on the bandwagon, say 1-3 years after we do, there will be a huge global bonanza in alternative energy companies. Hopefully, solar will reach grid parity in the same time frame or shortly after.
I'll be long on solar after the elections.

  • Some Solar Stocks Becoming Oversold  [View article]
You know what - Seeking Alpha is starting to remind me of the sub-prime mortgage business. Anyone can post with no Bio required. Inflation of low value opinions is exploding here!!

Also, MEMC is not a solar company. It is a silicon raw material raw material supplier mainly to the semiconductor industry and also to the solar PV industry.

    Thank you carlivar!
Also this is the second time I've seen that false forward P/E for Solarfun on Seeking Alpha. IF IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, CHECK IT OUT FIRST!

  • Bullish on Solar Energy, Bearish on Solar Stocks [View article]
You can almost bet that after the November elections there will be a huge positive change in American energy policy. Then sooner or later China and India will come on board (maybe 3-5 years though).

  • Profit Taking Could Dim Solar Plays [View article]
    Reply to M Lofrano
Point taken, but it really is a big deal when a solar panel maker gets a long term silcon supply contract. The difference between paying contract price and spot price for polysilicon can be huge and have a huge impact on margin and earnings. Witness the recent history of Solarfun (last two quarters).

  • Profit Taking Could Dim Solar Plays [View article]
    Two points:
    1) Listen to what is being said by world leaders. European support for alternatives was very strong at the Bali conference. All Democratic and most Republican candidates have positive positions on creating a sustainable energy economy in the U.S. for whatever reasons, be they security related and/or environmental. We don't know who will win the election but one thing is certain - it won't be George Bush.
    2) In reply to RIA - In regard to Solarfun having a forward P/E of 3. Don't believe everything you read on Yahoo. I've seen these mistatements before on the Web. $6-$8 earnings for next year are probably stated in some other (Chinese) currency. Too good to be true.

  • Solar Stocks Stay Strong Despite New Energy Bill [View article]
"The solar photovoltaic manufacturers relying on polysilicon semiconductor materials are facing a shortage of polysilicon supply and greater price for the material, since the silicon is an oil derivative product."

Here is yet another completely false and uninformed statement in a Seeking Alpha "article". As we all know (except the author and Seeking Alpha reviewer(s)) silicon is derived from common SAND, quartz or granite rock NOT OIL!

Many of us readers continue to lose confidence in the quality of Seeking Alpha's "articles" and its authors. NOT GOOD

  • Studies Highlight Growth in Renewable Energy [View article]
Not so fast Alpha... I feared getting killed by this regrettable Congressional (Republican) reaction, but the market is looking past this incident. Note that these performance numbers took place DURING the Bush administration - so why should they get any worse? The direction is clearly positive and the Republicans are not really in control longer term. Over 20 individual states have their own renewable programs and guidelines not to mention the EU. Bush is already irrelevant. He is only delaying the real bonanza to come. Today's (Dec. 14) positive market action (in solar stocks) in the face of the energy bill disaster and our (U.S.) sabotage of the Global Warming meeting in Bali is very encouraging. Knowledgeable investors see the long term mega trend.

  • MEMC Getting Ahead of Itself? [View article]
On further research it looks like STP is up $40-45 this quarter. Also, WFR will certainly make over $4.00 for FY2008. Citigroup has a $65 price target for 2008? Give me a break. One thing I've learned since the great NASDAQ bubble of 2000 is not to believe "analysts".

  • MEMC Getting Ahead of Itself? [View article]
You did not mention that WFR owns STP warrants. STP stock has gone up about $30 this quarter. This could contribute 10 cents or more to earnings of WFR this quarter. I look for an upside surprise in WFR Q4 report in January.
