  • Some Solar Stocks Becoming Oversold  [View article]
You know what - Seeking Alpha is starting to remind me of the sub-prime mortgage business. Anyone can post with no Bio required. Inflation of low value opinions is exploding here!!

Also, MEMC is not a solar company. It is a silicon raw material raw material supplier mainly to the semiconductor industry and also to the solar PV industry.

    Thank you carlivar!
Also this is the second time I've seen that false forward P/E for Solarfun on Seeking Alpha. IF IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, CHECK IT OUT FIRST!

  • Bullish on Solar Energy, Bearish on Solar Stocks [View article]
You can almost bet that after the November elections there will be a huge positive change in American energy policy. Then sooner or later China and India will come on board (maybe 3-5 years though).

Point taken, but it really is a big deal when a solar panel maker gets a long term silcon supply contract. The difference between paying contract price and spot price for polysilicon can be huge and have a huge impact on margin and earnings. Witness the recent history of Solarfun (last two quarters).

    Two points:
    1) Listen to what is being said by world leaders. European support for alternatives was very strong at the Bali conference. All Democratic and most Republican candidates have positive positions on creating a sustainable energy economy in the U.S. for whatever reasons, be they security related and/or environmental. We don't know who will win the election but one thing is certain - it won't be George Bush.
    2) In reply to RIA - In regard to Solarfun having a forward P/E of 3. Don't believe everything you read on Yahoo. I've seen these mistatements before on the Web. $6-$8 earnings for next year are probably stated in some other (Chinese) currency. Too good to be true.

  • MEMC Getting Ahead of Itself? [View article]
On further research it looks like STP is up $40-45 this quarter. Also, WFR will certainly make over $4.00 for FY2008. Citigroup has a $65 price target for 2008? Give me a break. One thing I've learned since the great NASDAQ bubble of 2000 is not to believe "analysts".

You did not mention that WFR owns STP warrants. STP stock has gone up about $30 this quarter. This could contribute 10 cents or more to earnings of WFR this quarter. I look for an upside surprise in WFR Q4 report in January.
