Municipal Bonds: A Clear Case of Buyer Beware [View article]
In CA, there is growing opposition to gov spending, particularly on salary's and pensions. Meg Whitman is running on a platform of reductions in the state gov labor force, I think its only a few years off, before state pensions will go 401K, and all defined benefit obligations will be converted to 401K.
Hopefully, these measures will prevent the state gov's from holding muni lenders hostage with threats of BK, and gov re-finance of muni debts. I'm supporting the Whitman campaign, it may be the only thing standing in-between a solvent state gov and BK under Jerry Brown. PS, I would sell CA munis if Jerry (moonbeam) gets elected.
