  • Something You Need To Know About These Commodity ETFs [View article]
    good evening bb
I think JJG and DBA are commodity -based funds, just like WEAT,SOYB and CORN are...one is an ETN & the other is an iPath fund?
You can certainly see a chart on their performances by going to the free chart page at STOCKCHARTS.COM and punch the symbol into the box; that would def. give you the trend on how they have been doing since fall'012....and they both certainly have options.
My point last nite was- I believe the JJG and DBA have a portion of wheat, corn and s/bean futures?, options on futures? in their make-up--so, say, corn is down hard and beans are up and wheat is steady in the futures mkt....the move down will prob. not be as dramatic down as buying teucrium's all corn-only fund CORN.
But to do what I am doing, you have to believe that corn has nothing much good going for it this crop year, in the long run .til spring....

Great info on the nature of these teucrium CORN WEAT and SOYB funds and it was for those given reasons that I had to narrow any grain plays down; that's the 1st thing.
Stayed away from the long/short fund plays on them and considered their options; WEAT & SOYB were pitifully too thinly traded to even consider. Waited for bear put spreads on the CORN, starting in Sept 012...and continuing to this day....been very, very good to me these past 24 months...
They(puts) are still too thinly traded...but if you are patient you can bide your time and jump aboard (like this whole week, for example) IF you are bearish on corn...if you are not bearish, check the 2 yr $CORN chart to get the power of the trend you are missing.
I do like JJG and DBA options, but I believe their funds take a cross-section of the 3 major commodity grains--so, sometime you don't see them working in the same direction-and, after all, options wear down with time even though you realized the trend.

I read someplace recently of a meeting involving the CEO of Burlington RR and some high official in DofA where the latter asked for, and was given a firm commitment from the former re adequate rolling stock to move this bumper crop.

  • Update: Cover The United States Gas ETF Trade [View article]
    Yes David
I, too, was a little nervous about trying UGA 60 puts so early in the summer seasonal play...I think what saved the day was trading Oct 60's, so that there was sufficient time for things to unfold....entry at 90 and exit at 210 on the 60's,so I am happy.
That 200 day MA at about 59 seems to be a real stable reference marker , up or down and I would like to use it as a reference for Dec UGA puts when/if the summer highs are in.

  • What To Expect From Gas Prices This Summer [View article]
    yes
I have found the UGA options plays, on the seasonal basis, to be fairly reliable-sometimes VERY good -other times not so much.
The fly in the ointment this late spring was Iraq, of course, messing up and spooking up the crude-just enough to wreck my July 63 puts.
Zanoni moves on to Oct. now -and I appreciate his analysis on why he feels the highs for the seasonal might soon be in..... patience, patience .... a $5-$6 drop in UGA would really do great things for Oct 60 puts !!.... could always back in to a bear spread as time wrecks your long side over the summer?
    we shall see

    thanx very much, KK
exactly what I had to know.
Canadians with CDN $ in a portion of their trading acct will have TWD for starters if they see fit.
It has been killing me of late to exchange CDN to USD for margin deposit.

yes-and we will never forget BREX will we?--but the beauty of it all was that there was plenty of time on the up-portion of the bell curve to take your profit-you don't have to hang in for the whole and unknown portion of the ride....
