As soon as keystone is stopped TM support will dramatically increase! The keystone path transportation path will continue to increase as the Panamanian continue to raise the cost of canal transits.

  • Alcoa completes closure of Australia aluminuim smelter [View news story]
"..although at a slower rate than in the last decade." And with AA reducing expenses and the US continuing to produce a larger of our electricity with cheap lean NG rather than dirty coal, the US % of aluminum production will continue to increase.

Unfortunately electricity produced by coal is holding level. Electricity produced by NG is increasing. California does not produce or buy and electricity produced by coal.

  • Alcoa's 2 Major Drawbacks [View article]
I disagree that debt is going up and the recent raise in AA has made it overvalued. Costs are going down, aluminum inventories are going down and aluminum prices are rising.
The biggest cost in aluminum production is electricity. Electricity price will have as big if not bigger factor on AA bottom line than LME price. We are in a NG exploration boom. At more and more electricity is produced by cheap NG rather than dirty coal, AA's advantage in the aluminum production will increase over China production. Perhaps the greenies will caught on to this and try to boycott China aluminum production.
Aluminum is also used it high voltage electrical transmission lines, not copper. With the replacement of coal plants with NG plants new transmission lines will have to be built with aluminum. Also, auto companies like Ford, are going to use a larger percentage of structural aluminum in car bodies.
With aerospace, more light weight aluminum being used in car production and the need to reinforce our HV transmission grid, aluminum will be more in demand. Did you read AA has developed a new and cheaper alloy for vehicle bodies? This is why AA is at a new 52 week high. Also, aluminum supply is tanking at 10,000 ton/day. Check out:

AA's stock price has risen lately because smart investors are buying AA, it is a smart investment. Obviously long AA.
