I personally watched 20 or so hours online. I thought they did a great job. Silverlight seems as good as Flash. And the download took all of 30 seconds.yo Aug 27 04:03 AM
    • Is Microsoft Out of Ideas? [view article]
Its simple. MSFT raised its cash position specifically to do a large acquisition (yahoo). When those prospects dropped, they see no reason to hold onto the cash.

Should they instead give it to the poor? No Buy 500 startups? No. Add another 15,000 FTE's? No.

Two choices? Large dividend payout (like they did one other time) or buy back shares. Its not like the company had debt to pay down.

    • Open Source Community Rants Six Years Late About Microsoft Filing [view article]
The OSS communities greatest strength in the past... is now clearly their greatest weakness. And I'm referring to their propensity to HATE everyone else. Look no further than GPLv3 for a legal-eaze version of that very weakness. Aug 06 01:47 AM

"but you have to wonder about the returns here"

Personally, I love the long-term approach that Ballmer and Co. are taking. Its REFRESHING and I wish more American businesses would/could do it.

If you're curious about the IRR, which is what you are worried about... go re-listen to Chris Liddell's presentation before the closing Q&A. He showed a slide or two that made a TON of sense.

    • How Microsoft's Hyper-V Could Beat VMware [view article]
VMWare is gonna eat dirt, and fast. The price is RIGHT with Microsoft's solution. Ask any CIO, if they are willing to receive a 50% discount for 80% of the functionality... and with Software Assurance... those same CIO's feel confident that the remaining 20% of functionality will not cost them a single penny more.

      Game set match.

"Odd for someone who fancies himself an expert on reporting."

Save the proper grammer for your lectures of 50+ year old people... the last generation concerned with such trivial things.

"Facts are debatable". Let me clarify. I should have said "The Facts in the linked story are debatable". The story that searchguru linked to is FULLY DEBATABLE. Those aren't facts.
