Erick Schonfeld, we come here to read THOUGHTFUL posts. This one is pure folly, while the one on Microsoft is sensationalized to the degree of gag. We get enough of that elsewhere.

"like search that actually works" as opposed to my Outlook search that actually works, or my ability to search sharepoint that actually works?

  • Google/ Microsoft Ad Wars: A Contrarian Viewpoint [View article]
I cant get past the first paragraph, which is factually inaccurate.

"Had there been enough foresight Yahoo could have been purchased earlier for far less than the current premium"

o rly? Here is a chart of yahoo's stock price. PLEASE point out the date on which the stock could have been purchased for "far less". Considering the special dividend was handed out two years ago, and the pre-acquisition announcement shows yhoo at its 4-year low point.

"How much longer can they lose billions a year on crap like zune and xbox?" Go do some digging, and you'll see they predicted full year 2008 as their first full year of profitable operations. They've been saying that, themselves, for years.

    "Microsoft is in decline"

By what measure, cause you didn't include that tidbit of data. Go look at their profits, and you wont see decline. Look at revenue. Nope. How about a contracting product line? Wrong again. Please, tell me.

"Most everything else is flash. "

Yeah, Exchange at a $billion$ profit/year is "flash".

Yeah, SQL Server at a $billion$ profit/year is "flash"

    Are you smoking weed?

"without people like Eric, Google would be around $1,800 instead of this dirt cheap $502 nonsense" Yeah Eric. Stop criticizing google and making reasonable points. STOP IT.

"How many ads do you see on Wikipedia?"

You are aware that they are hurrying like hell to release a AD-BASED SEARCH product, right?

"but it rides on an operating system that is full of security holes and plagued with viruses."

This might've been true with XP, but not with Vista. Time to update your thinking, friend. Cause you are simply WRONG.
