  • Bank Of England's Quarterly Report: Are We Quietly Seeing Central Banks Repatriate Their Gold? [View article]
understand your point Hebba but you should nevertheless refrain from mentioning GLD or SPDR GLD trust for that matter.

i'm sure you know that many bars were referenced in various prospectus from different ETF's when those bars could only have 1 owner.

i'm sure you also know about the various legal loopholes as mentioned by dave above that would basically leave any investor in those ETF's naked if a problem arose.

Also, let's not forget that when you purchase gold from an etf like the one you mentioned "PHYS" offered by Sprott and held at the canadian royal mint, you are not participating in the gold market at all. you are merely participating in the price movement of that specific ETF. if nobody sells, or if everyone sells, you will have a price action that will be completely independent of the price action at the comex.

the only pure exposure to gold price action is by holding the physical.

i'm glad someone comments on this. so many articles pushing people into GLD or SPDR GLD trust, both of which have been designed for the banks to profit from. Those etfs were born as a consequence of the massive profits the commercial banks were doing on the gold they leased from the central banks.

As the investment vehicles became more broad, more mainstream and available to every john doe, it is only normal that they thought about structuring those etf's.

this is any banker's wet dream , a financial vehicle people can buy on the screen, without ever needing to actually go through a lengthy paper contract that would previously scare anyone who would read it.

it is so much better to have a symbol "GLD" that people will buy or sell giving the momentum without ever actually considering the underlying investment and how it has been structured.

so kudos to Dave for mentioning this, he will at least save the few of you reading this article and acting upon it.

But let's not fool ourselves here, i still see people everywhere talking about DUST and NUGT which are 3x leveraged ETF's short and long on gold. however if you look at the underlying calculations, you will only find that those instruments will make you loose most of the time, even when you purchase the one currently trending along the market.

all those instruments exist to suck-in the retail investor.

just look at the number of shares you need to redeem a gold bar from GLD or SPDR GLD and you will quickly understand that those were not structured for the retail investor but for the big boys. retail investor can only loose with those instruments.

and if you want to participate in gold and you are a retail guy, there is only one way to do it and that is to purchase the physical ingots.

  • Should You Sell In May? [View article]
i am amazed at the foolishness of your comment.

if i understand you correctly, the fact that more than half of the U.S Debt is held by it's own institutions (statemen pension funds, police, firemen army, etc..) which in other places would be called a ponzi scheme, is for you a "plus" and you go even further by stating that as such, half of the debt is in fact no debt (so all these people that have seen their savings transformed in promise to pay at later date by their government - are in fact not due any capital as you say...).

well let me tell you , i strongly disagree with your view. moreover, bonds from the u.s treasury are unfunded liabilities. no more no less than obamacare.

  • 7 Secular Trends That Guide My Investing [View article]
very interesting article, i like the way you think. overall i agree with your 7 trends even though for some of them (cash to cashless for example) i am looking at other solutions than the 2 big players V and MA, whom i believe won't be able to enjoy the 70% share they enjoy today in the near future.

nevertheless i do appreciate how you narrow-down from macro/trends to potential equities active in those sectors. i believe this is a good approach.

    good day to you

  • China Mobile receives 1.2M iPhone pre-orders [View news story]
@ctownzoo so true :). this is sad but it is the world we're living in. given their size i'm actually quite happy about the purchases apple did in 2013. they don't seem to have overpaid any company and are always acting secretly and purchasing very specific companies for very specific needs.

when i see how much the other giants pay for snapshots apps or other shit stuff for billions of dollars i can only laugh.

ahahah :) i'll be done on friday, last options expiring on 17th. Agree with you, i thought we would be there by Christmas. very weird price action after new-year.

it is funny though how one of the best tech companies out there gets beaten for no reason when they deliver according to optimistic forecasts while there are half a dozen of over-inflated tech stocks that have not yet took a nose dive in 2014..

@VTH Moody's, S&P ? where were they in 2008 ? thank you but i'll pass on any of their "analyses".

how did all those rating agencies or regulators perform so far ? CDO's, Libor, london gold fix, madoff, and on and on. thank you but there names might mean something to you but it certainly doesn't mean anything to me.

    @TDWelander

no need to work for any miners. the situation on the gold market has been the same for years now. the price is manipulated, once that breaks up, the price will go through the roof very quickly. you won't have time to buy anything then. you will either own the physical or you won't.

as you said, central banks "control" the economy, but how long the printing game can last ? US, EU , JAPAN ? for how many years now ?

it is only a matter of time until it corrects. there are numerous reports out there about the physical supply status of gold, educate yourself. you might be in for a great surprise.

nice article Hawkinvest. no overcomplicated theories or thinking, it is quite straight forward and to the point.

i'm long on both but have been for a few months now so i'm still underwater. 2014 should see more people focusing on gold equities, hopefully we'll be rewarded this year.

    good week to you.
