Over a thousand flights scheduled for today and tomorrow have already been cancelled. The bigger issue: On the heels of Hurricane Sandy, a second storm will further disrupt the Q4 profitability of major carriers - although some industry loss estimates came in too high.     Regionals are worth what their contract guarantees are worth, American is intent on diversifying away from Eagle, and they have limited to no prospects of competing for expansion business. Good luck selling or spinning a rapidly emptying bag.

    You will find most book non-cash mark-to-market gains/losses below the operating line. The accounting depends on the nature of the hedge products being used. In either case, there is a reconciliation to "economic price of fuel". In no case is it s CapEx, which was the OP's initial assertion.
