What The Yield? Beware The Temptations Of Emerging Markets Debt [View article]
I've bought TEI at a premium and at a discount to build my position over time. You mentioned FAX. I bought it a little over a year ago and sold it this month. In recent years it's been a great performer, but I always hated that it was leveraged. I decided to sell the two leveraged CEFs (the other beingTYG).

Agree with tomlos and others--buy both, or more if they are each worthy. I'm long PM and MO. In telcom, long T, VZ, BCE, TU,TLSYY and RCI. I can't count on picking just the right one from a crowded industry--no one can consistently.

Brad, if I'm reading your comments correctly it seems that O will get a 27% increase in NAV from its acquisition of ARCT. So isn't ARCT selling out a bargain price?
And if O's NAV post-deal is about $31, isn't O's price of $38 a bit steep--approximately a 22% premium?
Noneleft: Inflation has been and likely will continue to be a problem for our country. We all have to decide how best to invest our assets to protect, and maybe improve, the purchasing power of those assets. I prefer investing in assets that have records of earning income and paying a portion of that income out to the owners. Gold just doesn't earn any income. And maybe one day people will decide that they don't need quite so much of something that can't earn income--that's the faith I referred to in my comment.
Cullen: The biggest problem with gold and other commodities, in my view, is that they can't earn any income. So their value depends on others desiring to own commodities as a hedge against the declining value of our currency. That requires a lot of 'faith'. I prefer owning tiny interests in companies that have long records of success in earning income and distributing part of those earnings their owners. Such companies benefit from technology advances and improving productivity--gold can't do that.
