  • Google's (GOOG -8.4%) Q3 results are out early, and they missed estimates. EPS of $9.03 missed by $1.62, and revenue of $11.33B (+51% Y/Y, boosted by Motorola acquisition) missed by $530M. Shares are diving. [View news story]
Um... please post where any one person or group of persons has successfully sued a company for battery life degradation. I don't care how you feel, or what you experienced or about my "beautiful garden" your supposedly destroying. It's battery life, sure you might have to plug your phone in every 3 hours but I really fail to see how you can prove that caused "damages" of any significant amount.

I read just fine so you just provide the court case / link and I'll find it.

Billions in damages due to low battery life? If I could sue for that I'd have all of Nokia's money, and Apple's, and Samsung's.... Motorola RAZR MAXX is probably the only one which wouldn't fall under that category.

  • Natural gas prices likely will remain range-bound at $3-$4/MMbtu until there's a structural change on the demand side, Oppenheimer's Daniel Katzenberg says. But that doesn't mean the sector will be boring, as he anticipates M&A activity will pick up, expecting attention in Bakken and Permian names such as WLL, KOG, AREX and PXD[View news story]
I don't know if I agree, the trend in storage gains is going down, a cold to extremely cold winter should correct a majority of the over supply. I think by mid to late 2013 $4+ NG will be seen... barring any unusual weather.

The rate at which storage is occurring seems to be trending downward in a time that historically trends up....

Could someone correct me if that statement is false? Trying to better understand this.

  • More on Nokia (NOK) Q3: NSN swings to an operating profit of €182M from a loss of €227M in Q2. Nokia says that "competitive industry dynamics" continue to hurt its mobile phones ops, and it won't benefit as much as usual from the holiday season, but it is experiencing "consumer demand, particularly related to...Lumia." Shares +4.4% premarket. (PR[View news story]
It's just choppy right now, this release hasn't really told us anything except that some of the hemorraging has been resolved. But everything relies on WP8 and the Lumia line doing well. Now there are reports of pre-orders being sold out but that doesn't really tell us much either.

    4Q will be everything,

  • Walt Mossberg's review of Windows 8 (MSFT) is fairly positive, but also features some qualifiers. Microsoft's new tablet-centric interface (formerly called Metro) "worked very well, very smoothly and holds its own with iPad and Android," says Mossberg, but he adds (echoing the concerns of others) it "risks confusing traditional PC users, who will be jumping back and forth between two ways of doing things." He's also a fan of Win. 8's multi-touch gestures and Charms control strip. (more[View news story]
People are too worried about the older generation who has trouble with technology... you look at teens and young adults today (the future consumers and who will drive growth over the next 30 years) they can learn new tech in days compared to someone who in the 60+ years it takes longer (not a bash just a realization that they grew up in simpler times).

The new stuff I think will come off as refreshing once they learn the shortcuts and stuff. I remember when I first learned to copy paste using the Ctrl key... I hated it for the first 3 days after that it was like how did I live without... Sound familiar? That's because its exactly what caused the smartphone boom. Slow to adopt then exploded literally over the course of 3-4 years.

  • The Obama administration delays a decision on whether to prevent a liquefied natural gas export license for Cheniere Energy (LNG), saying it needs more time to review a complaint that an environmental assessment did not go far enough. LNG's Sabine Pass is the only project so far to receive conditional Energy Department approval to export to countries without free-trade agreements. [View news story]
I watch them still for the entertainment value, at the end of the day I don't want a smooth talker I want someone who will get stuff done.

May the odds be forever in your favor!

    What?
Can I complain that the ACA didn't go far enough in assessing the damage to the economy it may or may not cause so that it's enactment is delayed until 2016?

  • Nike (NKE) says it will end its contract with Lance Armstrong as it condemns the athlete for his alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs. While a fall from grace is nothing earth-shattering in the world of high-profile sports world, Nike and Lance Armstrong became more interwoven over the years with the Livestrong brand prominently displayed at stores and through its website. [View news story]
I think his point is that for an "investing" site there are a lot of errors in these blurbs... It's not like an article it's a short blurb that takes 5 minutes at most to edit/proofread. If this only happened 1-3 times a week I would be in agreement with you... but pretty much everyday 1-5 times a day is a bit much for anyone.

If you want to be a premier site stuff like this needs to be minimized. That being said SA has a lot of good, more so than the bad. They need to do a better job of say not letting authors basically regurgitate information into 10 articles, and of course proofreading these blurbs before posting.

correct me if I'm wrong but siri simply puts the parsed texted into a search algorithm which will return a result no? I mean no one is claiming Siri is AI.
