And still, there are no Carter-era type lines at the gas stations.

However, there are some in Congress who are looking for ways to return to that condition.

Vote early and often (changing each time) in November.

Am I missing something? Do Visa and MA carry the credit risks of card issuance and use?

If so, why do cards carry a "Chase" designation; or Citi, etc.

There ought to be some clarification as to how and why; and from what sources V and MA make their money. Is it really from extensions of consumer credit a la COF? If not, please expalin the application of the above.

      Diving Into the Water ETF
This is an extremely useful survey.

As a former owner of what is now one of the components of LAYN, I keep in mind a statement of its founder of the rising importance of "Water Chemistry" or water treatment.

Generally, and probably rightly, left out of this sector analysis is "water transport" (pipelines, etc). But it is an element to consider.

BZF: the Fund intends to achieve exposure to Brazilian currency markets by
investing primarily in short term U.S. money market securities and forward currency
contracts and swaps. The combination of U.S. money market securities with forward
currency contracts and currency swaps is designed to create a position economically
similar to a money market security denominated in Brazilian Real. A forward currency
contract is an agreement to buy or sell a specific currency at a future date at a price set at
the time of the contract. A currency swap is an agreement between two parties to
exchange one currency for another at a future rate.

One is not "buying the Reai."

      BRIC Is for Real
Many readers may not be aware of the concept of "Open Access Orders," as defining the social organizations of nations, such as the the U S , U K and France.

None of the BRICs are open access. They are all Limited Access Orders. See, NBER Working Paper 12795.

Unless one understands the the risk factors of an LAO, as compared to those within an OAO, there is no limited to one's loss exposures.

Russia in particular has become (and shows no trends for change) a strict LAO. Brazil may be capable of becoming a "threshold" economy (transitioning to OAO) but has a high burden "public" sector - but is stable. India and China are not yet at Threshold.

It is not simply a question of the existence of "Rule of Law." But, for whom do the "Rules" work. It is an issue of how their societies are organized and function (as well as why they are so).

It is not simply a matter of what pots are boiling, but what ingredients are in them - and - who's doin' the cookin' to what purposes.

Disclosure: Long RSX; EWZ; MTL; VWO (retired from International Law).

There is more to the "Empire State" picture and that is relocation. NY is not a good state to be in; and, as people said of Ark. during the depression, "It's a good state to be FROM."
