The question that comes up is what is Ericsson buying the Patent Portfolio or the entire set of assets, which is a lot more than Patents, namely the customers who buy CDMA equipment.
I believe the P in GDP is Product. Old products were counted earlier when they were originally produced and should not be counted in the current GDP. A countries expansion is driven by creation of NEW products, producing new products is what drives manufacturing, agriculture and many service (not all svcs) jobs growth. In addition it shows an expanding economy to the rest of the world.
Indian Markets: It Can Get More Frightening [View article]
Stupid title ... if the article is on India make the whole article on India. Also dont just report on what an expert said put some analysis behind it. What is the point of articles like this?
Economy Loses 240,000 Jobs in October, Defines Obama's Challenges [View article]
One item that nobody is talking about is that of the 88% that are employed and have cash coming in on a regular basis could potentially help unclog the credit mess. IF everybody that had a little cushion: 1) paid up a little extra in their mortgage payment thereby providing extra cash into the banking system 2) Or instead of making just the bare minimum of Credit card payments pay up extra and bring down credit card debt 3) Pay up a little extra in your car loan.
Everybody want tax cuts or pork projects for their industry, .... why not get to the root of the issue and put your money where it would make a difference to the short term problem, and in the long run helping americans reduce their own personal debt.
Not sure if this would help but I have not seen any mention of grassroots measures that could help resolve this mess.

The Consumer Spending Slowdown Catches Apple [View article]
I find this article has NO PROOF of the title. First the charts are missing many data points where is June 08, July 07.... I have to agree with papita, the number of users that were in the mall last weekend in the Apple store was incredible and they were buying computers!! Also consider the back to school effect, this last quarter is traditionally high and Oct should have a lull in spending (where is october in the data charts?) as a normal seasonal effect.
doing what you suggest "allow a UMA device to access corporate network" would provide a huge productivity boost to enterprises. The reason this is not being done is that your Corporate IT decision maker is not comfortable with such access over the wifi part, RIM already provides access to corporate e-mail via 2g.
also which carriers are interested in this? upto now its only T-Mo US, Orange and Rogers. IS THERE ANYONE ELSE?????
Apple's iPhone: Home Court Advantage [View article]
This move serves several needs: - the deals being made by apple are in countries where 2G is dominant, Apple has to milk its cow and make greater profits by selling older phones to countries where 2G prevails for now. 3G may be deployed in a coule years in India/China but today its all 2G.
- sell the 2G phones in counties where there are big grey markets (India, China, Philipines). It could help reduce the "grey market for a 3g" handset and thereby keep the profits for Apple and AT&T in the US
- Plant the seeds to get people to buy Mac's and iTunes, the Vista problems are global, I wonder when Apple start's selling Mac's in emerging markets, this is a huge opportunity for Apple.
This is already possible for individuals who are willing to invest in a business with some exorbitent amount. (at least that was the word going around when I applied for my green card decades ago) extending it to home ownership is a slight stretch to that. What would happen if the wealthy were urged to pay off their Home mortgages as soon as possible? would this alleviate some of the issues? This would - pump liquidity into institutions that are suffering from non payments. - slightly reduce the deficit
