Is Berkshire Hathaway Now a Bargain?
Doug Kass has no idea what he is talking about in this case. For example, he criticized Berkshire for calling derivatives WMD (due to the consequences of counter-party risk) then selling derivatives itself.

If Kass had actually read the letter to shareholders, he would know that Berkshire merely SOLD options. It has ZERO counter-party risk for this contract.

If Kass can't even do this simple research, his opinion shouldn't count for much.

      Berkshire Hathaway's Derivative Play
He mentioned this in his 2007 letter to shareholders. He said there is no counter-party risk because he sold them, he didn't buy them. I'm not sure selling puts is properly referred to as "buying" derivatives.

How the Stock Market Is Like a Dog on a Leash
I see it now. Well, at the very least, "buy when it's x% below the moving average" is still good advice when you've got new money to put in.

Buy when we're x% below 50 day moving average. Sell when we are x% above. Easy, free money. It seems too good to be true. What's the catch?

The Worst Is Over ... Again ... And Again ...
Baji, instead of being a jerk like the other posters, I'll give you the reason I think the losses could be greater that the mere sum of losses due to mortgage depreciation. The banks don't just have mortgage-backed securities on their books. They have leveraged MBS. As in, they created derivatives for the mortgages and and securitized that.

If SeekingAlpha is going to have a test before letting people post, they should test to make sure people aren't nasty, abusive twits like Negative Carry and Voice of Reason.

      The Impending Mortgage Crisis
If I may paraphrase this thought:

"No one who knows anything is worried about the gradual increases in the Earth’s temperature that will occur if global warming continues. Scientists, obviously, don't know anything. They should come to Michael Goode if they want answers about science. Michael Goode is the man. Not only is he smarter than a scientist, but he's handsomer than the handsomest man, and the ladies love him. He's humble, too. Michael Goode is so humble that he shies away from humility. Mothers, don't let your babies grow up to get Ph.Ds. Let them become super awesome bloggers like Michael Goode."
