Yelp - Bubbles Swell Before They Burst [View article]
Well written article. You have solid reasoning and describe the reality clearly. I also own puts on Yelp, and I will continue to buy them. Anyone who understands business/competition OR can read a balance sheet should be salivating at the ridiculous multiple of revenue that this HOAX of a company is trading at today.
An 8GB Wi-Fi-only version of the iPad Mini (AAPL) will cost just $249, according to an inventory screenshot leak - that would make the device, expected to sport a 7.85" display, $50 more expensive than the 7" 8GB Nexus 7 and 16GB Kindle Fire HD. But a 16Gb Wi-Fi version will go for $349, as will an 8GB 3G/4G version. The most costly model listed (a 64GB 3G/4G unit) will reportedly sell for $649. Apple is expected to unveil the Mini at an Oct. 23 event. (retina MacBook Pro) [View news story]
NYU finance prof./valuation theorist Aswath Damodaran now gives Facebook (FB +5.3%) an intrinsic value of $23.94/share, below the $29/share value he gave it in May. Facebook's Q2 report has led Damodaran to lower his revenue growth and operating margin forecasts, as well as reduce his expected sales-to-capital ratio. Damodaran says he has a limit order to buy Facebook at $18. (earlier) [View news story]
Well, how about the $5.50 in cash per share . . . and the earnings.

I echo fauxscot's remarks. Also, I am of the belief that the type of quantitative analysis widely employed by the marginal buyers has become a self fulfilling prophecy in many stocks; thereby reducing the importance of fundamentals (reality). Add-in the affect of options on the share price and logic loses relevancy-a dangerous trend for U.S. markets.
At 123.79 NFLX is trading at 43.9X S&P's 2013 EPS. Granted, the EPS estimate is a guess at this point, but the lack of earnings clarity only helps to portray the wildly inflated value of today's share price. This is a high risk business model priced to perfection. While it is possible that Hastings and co. pull off explosive growth over the next 5 years, the risk/reward trade-off is poor. I like the short side here.
Netflix (NFLX +2.4%) enjoys a boost after B. Riley reiterates its Buy rating, saying investors should hold on to their shares until after the company's Q4 conference call on Jan. 25. biobat,
I notice that you have been touting NFLX for months; throughout its demise. Your conviction is admirable. . . Your analysis is weak. YOU should have taken YOUR money and ran.

I have until June. We will see if the shares have as long. . .

James, Great article. I tend to believe that the ECB (Germans, French, et al.) will ultimately succumb and save the periphery-They really have to in the end. But, I agree that we are about to witness a level of social unrest in Europe that we have never seen.

There have been several positive media releases in support of NFLX recently. None of them present any facts supporting the viability of the company's high risk business model. There is a concerted effort to "flush out" the shorts here.
All of this big picture-future of TV- gibberish is irrelevant. The question is: Can Netflix survive the next 24 months with their spiraling costs and intensified competition? To me, 90 bucks per share seems to discounting an extremely rosy outcome for a company that will lose money in 2012 and has a very high risk business model going forward. But, tell me again. . . WHY is Netflix a buy???
Why Netflix Is Still Winning After All [View article]
Why would they leave? Netflix is spending a fortune (that could be used to fund content deals or expansion) to buy back shares. Meanwhile the insiders are cashing-in their stock options every month. Management is transferring shareholder's money to insiders as quickly as they can. This ship is sinking, don't be a patsie.
