Chesapeake Energy: Earnings and Shale Drama
We need an energy policy to begin the conversion of over the road trucks to natural gas fuel. Just the start of this conversion will drop oil prices so airlines that need cheaper JP4 can continue to serve our national interests.

More Fallout from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?
Problems in the debt market are so reoccurring its a wonder that margin requirements are not raised so that unreasonable debt leverages of 30 to 40 to 1 become prohibitive. Except for the '87 crash where portfolio insurance was supposed to transfer risk to S&P Futures Market equity leverage has not been a significant problem in the financial markets.

GE: Exceptional Total Return Potential at the Current Price
I would rather have GE stock than yields >4% and may increase that yield, than a 10 year Treasury bond that yields 4%. Most investors do not know we are in a secular bear market that started in 2000. These markets live for 15 - 20 years and most of the return is from dividends. I know having invested thru the last secular bear dating from 1966 to 1982. Five times the Dow kissed 1000 only to retreat to 600. In '82 it broke out into a new secular bull that ended in 2000.

Berkshire Hathaway: Like a Kid in a Candy Store
It pays to soar with the Eagle(BRK)rather than to be the road kill flattened by excessive leverage. Any of the road kill worth picking up won't be missed the Eagle's sharp eye.

Is the Bear Hibernating Already? Doubtful
You have your terms wrong. This secular bear market has been around since 2000. We have just completed last October a cyclical bull market within this secular bear. Since October we are now in a cyclical bear market within the secular bear. Secular bull and bear markets last a long time. The last secular bear ran from 1966 to 1982. The secular bull then ran from 1982 to 2000. We may have 10 more years before the next secular bull market arrives. It will be announced with a blast above 16000 on the DJ with sustained rising prices on heavy volume.

Fannie and Freddie Can't Sell Their Debt
Dwb makes the right point in that the debt is not extinguished so real progress, deleveraging, is not accomplished. This is a shell game period.

      E-Trade Financial Carries High Risk-Reward
I sold ETrade at $16 taking a $2K hit on my position, reduced my balance and put it in their FDIC protected account. Except for not providing option quotes on their regular account screens, I find their service superior to TDAmeritrade and light years ahead of BofA which I inherited from Fleet.

      Analyzing Verizon's FiOS Bet
From a technical point of view FIOS wins hands down. It will not be made obsolete by higher frequency, higher capacity spectrum. Coax cable channels at 500 MHz was fine for low resolution TV with a few voice and music channels thrown in. High defTV uses 19.38 megabits/sec for over the air broadcast which uses most of their bandwidth. HighDef sub channels use standard definition 480i, the same standard in use since the 1940s. Everything you see is not HighDef either on cable or over the air.

Jacobs Engineering: Cutting Position, Short Idea
Well stated yank. In a bear market most stocks get bid down if only to generate cash for margin calls as panic sinks in. I watch stocks that hold up well in these conditions as they will lead the way up when conditions improve. JEC is on my watch list.
