Pickens has it right, convert large trucks to CNG where there is room for the bulky high pressure tanks necessary to store significant amounts of the fuel. Propane is a much better fuel for automobiles as it stores at low pressure to remain liquid in ambient air temps as high as 100F. NG burns clean and extends engine life; it is also a high octane fuel allowing for higher engine compression pressures. A significant program to use NG for our transportation needs would put a collar on oil prices. Significant amounts of distillates would become available for the air transport industry that must operate on oil based fuels.

Credit induced down turns are the worst. Like bad blood weakens every body organ, credit problems affect everything economic. We saw it all in the 1930s when most of the money supply wound up in the hands of the rich and the money center banks. Sadly the rich cannot spend enough to support our economy. Most all that GS bonus money will sit on the sidelines(in the money center bank accounts) and not stimulate anything. It took WWII and huge deficits to get money back into the hands of the consumers.
