  • Lessons from the Madoff Scandal: Deciding Which Funds Are Worth an Investment [View article]
Buffett knows markets. The secular bear we are in will run to 2018, the puts will lose time premium and vaporize in a new secular bull we will be in at their expiration. Meanwhile GS and GE will be paying 10% on the premium he collected. All the Madoff scandal proves is easy come, easy go. Few of those rich investors worked for their money otherwise they would have invested it with care. Also feeder funds getting 2 and 20 is simply stupid any way you look at it.

    Sulllivan,
You are a great spin master on this one. The loans only midly stink, think what is lying below them, leverage buyouts loans worth thirty cents on the dollar. Oops!, I forgot about us helpless taxpayers.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [View article]
I somehow think investors and the markets do not comprehend how serious the troubles in the financial sectors are. Every time a bank takes a CDO on to its balance sheet is equivalent to making a big loan without even knowing the name of the borrower or even worse nothing about his financial circumstances. I frankly have never seen anything like this in my years of borrowing and investing. Loan officers I've encountered over the years were tough cookies. Nothing good can come from these going on.

  • Clinton and Obama: Hedge Fund Killers [View article]
In the 1930s J. Paul Getty took control of the Union Oil Company, fired the board of directors, established a new board and called a combined meeting with company officers. The agenda had two items.
    1. all company senior officers were fired - passed
    2. former senior officers would be considered for re-employment the following monday at half their current pay - passed

All officers were given new contracts at a lower pay scale.

Getty's officers didn't run and I don't think the hedge fund managers will run if they have their tax rate increased.
