Good article. The quotes from John Bogle are interesting considering he has very little say in Vanguard today...Vanguard the mutual fund titan has maintained a trading platform sourced through a third party on their site. In January of this year they announced that in May '09 all trading in equities and options will now be handled in house.

I invest with Vanguard and use their platform as well as another discount broker. I have my $ with Vanguard for safety and protection more than anything else. Because Vanguard had so much $ pulled from their mutual funds last year (and also lost) they felt it was an economic necessity to offer this service. I for one look forward to using this service in the future...
