Lev Pharmaceutical: Bullish, Despite Delayed FDA Decision
Another buy initiation on the stock just a couple of days ago this time by Jefferies who sees the stock in their words with a conservative valuation of $3 per share. Also, the company has struck a deal with CVS to help commercialize Cinryze once its approved by the FDA.

The full FDA will still need to approve Cinryze and it looks like an action date will be in the early fall.

Penn Gaming Acquisition Not a Gamble
I actually made a post yesterday to my subscribers over at Vestopia but the gist of it is that I remain positive on the shares. By my estimations there is roughly a 20% chance that no deal is done with even odds among the remaining 80% of a deal done at current prices or at a reduced price (most likely in the $58-61 range). PENN like other gambling operators is struggling with a consumer which has less disposable income but much like alcohol there is always a demand for their product. The cash flows at the firm remain very strong with excellent free cash flow generation and the company has recently begun operating a new PA facility along with potentially down the road a casino in NJ to help with revenue growth going forward.

Interestingly, just a few hours after the NYT article a spokesman for Wachovia came out and denied that they are attempting to change any terms or lower the price of the deal. Now whether they are being completely honest is another question but it does show that the deal can be done. I dont see any issues with the remaining regulatory hurdles (state approvals) so its really going to come down to the negotiations.

Long term if no deal happens I still like this stock as they will likely strongly benefit once the economic environment improves and move to more normalized growth rates.

Ames, TRMP has thus far been unwilling to change with the times and improve and modernize the resorts. The company is also highly leveraged to the Atlantic City market which is facing increased competition from nearly every state around NJ. In addition, the company is highly indebted thus increasing the overall risk .

Seeksome, I like UA as a company but this is simply a valuation call as well as due to potential inventory issues at the company going forward.

Moldflow Breaks the Mold with International Growth
It was just announced that Moldflow is to be acquired by Autodesk for $22/share. Although, I am happy with the gains from the stock I am of the opinion that the company is worth more than the acquisition price especially considering the international growth prospects especially in Asia and the low valuation.

      What about the Pocket Recessions?
      Ponchovilla,

Despite what I have said about it being an environment of pocket recession there is no doubt in my mind that people are feeling pain across the board (it just doesnt quite reach at this point the likely definition of a recession as explained by the NBER). Now, we could all argue with the NBER on exactly what a recession is but at this time I consider the environment to be very slow growth with serious but pocket recessions

I agree about the dividend yield although the company does have about 80 cents per share in cash along with the regular quarterly cash flows so if they want to they could continue it for several more quarters. That being said, I think they would be wise to lower the dividend and explore some growth opportunities with some of the cash left over. At $5 per share with 80 cents of cash and no LTD you have a stock selling at roughly $4.20 backing out cash giving the stock a p/e likely in the high single digits on next years results.

      8 Predictions for 2008
We are now nearly 1/3 of the way into the year and so far here is the record:
      1) So far incorrect but I still think we will have positive results by the end of the year.
      2) Asset management firms are starting to outperform and financials have staged a nice comeback in April. (Too early to tell)
      3) This has clearly been correct thus far. Just look at some of the high valuation stocks from late 07 and what has happened to them. 4) I was far too conservative in my Fed thinking but the general direction was clearly correct. I continue to expect a second half rebound.
      5) So far, so good here. I anticipate that the dollar should strengthen the rest of the year only increasing the spread.
      6) So far this has played out exactly as I stated.
      7) Housing is still not showing signs of a bottom although housing stocks have done quite well.
      8) Correct as volatility is substantially above last year's levels and I would expect this to continue.

Overall, we are only 1/3 into the year but I continue to stand by the predictions with the exception of a slight delay in the housing bottom.

      Quiet Confidence in HanesBrands Earnings
I agree that the earnings report was an overall positive. They were affected mildly by the economic slowdown but lower interest rates ended up offsetting any harm from slower sales. Looking forward, as the economy improves Id expect greater leverage to come from earnings growth thus enabling more rapid bottom line growth. The company is still likely to report a strong free cash flow (CFO was positive based on their conference call) and of course any improvement in consumer confidence would be a net positive even with many of their products being more of a consumer staple.
