An Idea for Airlines: The Social Flight
How did you manage to overlook the obvious?
Air travel has evolved from an upper-class privilege to a dollar-store experience, at least in the main cabin. Just like Wal-Mart, most airlines even outsource labor to the least expensive provider as much as possible, regardless of location. The governmant still has control of most of airlines operations, limiting the ability to provide increased service to match a surge in demand.

The most obvious thing you have overlooked is the best way to return the "social" aspect to the air travel experience in today's "low airfare or die" marketplace:
Provide a public school education to air travelers: everything from airport experiences to the emergency proceduree on the various types of aircraft, with emphasis on the need for air travelers to take personal responsibility for social air travel. The airlines can only do so much to balance the air travel experience with the cost of the ticket. The rest is up to the consumers.
