Is it really possible for someone to be _this_ ignorant and write an investment column? Or is it a prerequisite?
Meredith Whitney is an analyst, not an investor. She has always been very clear about the horizon of they analysis. There are fluctuations in the short term, and an investor can profit from those fluctuations. So this writer made a short term profit. Does that nullify the fundamentals of the underlying analysis? Sure, if you're unable to see beyond the tip of your nose.
The weatherman reports it's going to be an exceedingly hot day. A writer feels unusually cool that afternoon. Of course that means the weatherman was wrong!
And the ongoing underlying assumption that one analyst somehow moves the markets totally arbitrarily is simply ignorant. You're a financial writer, Phil (or at least you think you are). Try moving the market a fraction of a point in any direction.
