Apple TV and the Future of the DVD player
Moofer, don't get me wrong, I would not prefer to use a flash drive at retailer as an onload/offload device. I too prefer downloading the files I want. My point was that if I had to drive somewhere, and being that I really don't care for keeping DVDs and having storage on a hard drive, I would go with flash route. Tough it is a little absurd and I knew when I wrote it that it's unlikely. Internet downloading is definitely the way to go.

Apple TV and the Future of the DVD player
It's nice to see this article out there for discussion. As I am thoroughly irritated that there are two HD DVD formats to choose from, am tired of slow-moving-bottleneck... parts such as is the case with any DVD player, and am frankly at this point used to hard drive or flash based access to lots of media a la the ipod era - I don't even want a disc based player unless it's strictly for archival purposes. Give me something that looks like a stereo receiver (maybe thinner) with two hard drives (one for play one for backup), bluetooth, WIFI, RJ45 connector, HDMI, etc and let me download and store my music or take a hand flash drive and go to Target or some other retailer that can give me what I want on the flash drive. Then I take it home and load it on my system. I never really look at all the packaging of my DVDs anyway. I've already ripped all of my music and DVDs to my hard drive (personal use exclusively of course) to listen to and watch on local and remote household devices as I please and don't have to go shelf searching for which disc I want. Having computers and iPods has changed the way I want access to media and how much at a time. Who knows, I may never get a HDDVD or BluRay player. But first I'll wait for Novalux to bring out a TV.
