One of the better substitutes for trading in carbon is reducing the carbon usage. Orion Energy Systems(OESX) cuts electricity requirements by large amounts at no cost to the companies that they deal with. Bottomline large users of electricity save big dollars at no capital cost to themselves. Now that's an idea.
What does the financial crisis have to do with ENER? They are well financed into 2011 and their backlog is mostly take or pay(approx.$1.5 billion). By the time their bacllog runs out, I would expect that the "financial crisis" will be long over and President Obama's alternate energy plans will be in full swing. I'm long ENER at these prices.

I notice that no one mentions ENER. They probably have the best program in the solar business. They are well financed, have take or pay orders into 2010, and produce the least expensive product, plus they make good money!

Wayfarer; ENER's thin film technology starts to produce earlier in the morning and later in the evening than other products, plus it works on overcast days, which increases its efficiency. There are maqny different ways to describe efficiency. Believe me, GM wouldn't have contracted for 2million sq/ft on their Spanish plant, if the efficiency wasn't provably superior. Bottom line ENER's efficiencys are superior to their competitors. Add to this the possibility of reducing the cost of the thin film product by up to 80%. This would make it cheaper to produce electric power than any other means, including nuclear, wind, ocean, etc. they applied for the patent on April 17, 2008. They talk about making fresh water almost as cheaply as diverting a stream to you home. Can you imagine what his would do for the billions of poor in the world? I can't think of a better place to put my money. A lot of other people feel the same way, ENER just did an oversubscribed convertible bond for over $350 million. Anyway you get the idea. This is the future. Good luck
Cramer is, admittedly so, nutty as a fruit cake! He protesteth too much about his blind trust, which isn't blind, but run by him. It's called a charitable trust, by him. Anyway, the big news with ENER is that they have a patent on increasing the manufacturing speed of their photovoltaic thin film line by 10. This reduces cost to a point that they become as cheap as fossil fuels. That's a WOW!
ENER has a patent application dated April 17, 2008 that promises to reduce the cost of solar power to less than fossil fuel. This not only makes it economic for electric but also reduces the cost of purifying water( another giant use ) . This is quite an advancement in technology. It is accomplished by increasing the thin film line speed by as much as 10X's

You left out the most important solar energy company, ENER. Their new patent on increasing the speed of manufacture of thin film photovoltaics is the link to make sunpower competitive with fossil fuels( I sent the wrong web link last time, below is the correct one ): appft1.uspto.gov/netac...
