Did the Fed tighten while we were getting a cup of coffee? The greenback is soaring against all other currencies, with the dollar bull ETF (UUP) gaining 0.6% - an unusually large move for that vehicle. Strength against the yen (FXY -0.3%) and the aussie (FXA -0.9%) are givens of late, but the greenback is up about 1% vs. both the loonie (FXC) and the swissie (FXF), and about 0.6% vs. the euro (FXE) and cable (FXB). Getting hit are Treasurys (TLT -0.5%), the dollar bear ETF (UDN -0.6%) and of course, gold (GLD -0.7%). [View news story]
"The greenback is soaring against all other currencies," NOT. Have you been tracking it against the Renminbi?
@Dick1366 - Agreed on the "distribution" plus growth. ETP is an example of little growth with nice distribution. PAA is an example of small distribution with huge growth. One must assess what is best for their portfolio.
To qualify/quantify a whole market segment based on the above comment; "Judging MLPs just by distributable cash flow, their 6.85% average DCF yield is well below their long-term 9.2% median, which would make MLPs “dramatically overvalued." is absolute stupidity!! Do your research and chose your stocks wisely. MLPs are one of the best asset classes right now from pipelines to timber to coal to cemeteries. Also, there are other analysts who consider " ETP, OKS, EEP, EPB, ACMP." to be the bottom of the heap for MLPs.
@ redbaron: LNG (Cheniere) is the first US company to get an export license for LNG (liquid natural gas). They have many contracts in place for export already and numerous large investors, such as Blackstone. I bought in at $10.80 and sold at $28.50. Will buy back again if it dips below $20.00.
Canada continues to turn up the heat on the Obama administration, as natural resources minister Joe Oliver says a U.S. rejection of the proposed Keystone (TRP) pipeline “would represent a serious reversal in our long-standing energy relationship.” On environmental objections, Oliver says Keystone crude would displace Venezuelan and other heavy oil and "not increase greenhouse gas emissions at all.” [View news story]
China and Buffett pull the strings on this one. Whatever benefits them and Obama's campaign fund will dictate.
At current prices, 15% of global gold miners probably are now underwater, according to Nomura's Tyler Broda, who also predicts gold could fall to as low as $1,000/oz. this year. Companies relying on a single asset and those in Africa, already struggling with deteriorating geopolitical risk, will find it more difficult to convince banks to fund projects, Broda says. @ Hannox, manipulation from stated entities to buy at lower prices. Also, Germany is "trying" to repatriate it's gold from the US to no avail. They cannot even get a look at it, at last report.

Yes Sir, as I do to everyone for fear of giving improper advice, go hire a tax "attorney" who intimately knows said industry who will fiscally compensate any client for mistakes they might make.

In my humble opinion, there are too many factors in play for the fed to keep everything tidy. I am very bullish long term on stocks, but the next 6-12 months could be a wild ride. Just a little insurance for the down side.

Ned Davis Research finds MLPs in a familiar bind: They look rich by historical standards but not relative to income investing alternatives.
