The Dangers of Timing the Market
punk_ash....The issue is I do not know any famous market timers. The difficulty with market timing is one needs to get two decisions right, 1) get out of the market and 2) get back in. Generally, the emotional and psychological aspects of investing prevent one from getting both decisions correct. The above facts do show that market timers are unable to get in on the day before the big up move in the market. In the end, it is time in the market and not timing the market that matters most.

      The Bottom's Within Sight - Barron's
I would rather see more bearish headlines than bullish ones. I hope the article is correct, but market bottoms are generally made when all the headlines and magazine covers are bearish.

Is the DJIA Heading Towards Zero?
carey_jim: I agree with you that there is money to be made even in downward trending markets. Additionally, the market is not going to zero. I was attempting to add a little levity to this market situation. I think the selling is way over done and has been overtaken by emotion and not fundamentals.

PowerShares Financial Portfolio: A Preferred Idea
Many of the common stocks for financial firms have dividend yields equal to or greater than the preferred yields. Additionally, the tax rate on many preferred shares is not 15% like the dividend on the financial firm's common. Lastly, I believe the potential price appreciation on the common shares, i.e., total return, may be greater than for preferred issues.
