I think this year will see a huge growth in niche social networking sites. These attract a targeted demographic that wants to connect with like-minded users. These sites also offer advertisers and corporations targeted, segmented markets to aim for. Sites such as Ning.com are enabling anyone to create a social network and there's dedicated search engines such as findasocialnetwork.com that help users find niche social networks and help these networks promote themselves.
