Sirius/XM Satellite Radio: Merger is Doomed
actually the reason they ramped up membership was the inclusion of radios in ford vehicles that coincided with the stern signing. they would have picked up millions of new folks without stern and managed to save a few hundred million in the process

have you ever lived in rural America? Radio, like TV is not a given. There are places where no or only a couple of station are receivable. I am not talking about the midwest either, there are places in upstate NY, Pennsylvania, Vermont, NH. Maine etc etc etc where no radio is receivable....

Berkshire Hathaway: Hold Off Until Buffett Steps Down
i agree they are trading at a value, that is my point. they are trading at a value because folks realize the $40 B will be sitting there for years. if he would deploy it, the stock would jump..

you never heard this argument from me before because I was an owner and he was investing based on his statments, not anymore..

      Ethanol Has OPEC Publicly Concerned
see today's ADM hire at the blog. their ideal would be to use cellulose technology to utilize the whole corn stock and triple yields...

      this is not far away....

      Thomas,

I think in order to get to "z", we need to start at "a" and corn ethanol is just that. yield are improving everyday and the cellulose technology is only a couple of years away. we can do it now, just not as cheaply as corn. the cost is falling regularly though and it is not a question of "if" but "when". ADM is in the game here now and based on their past, they do not bet on anything that is not almost a sure thing

Altria's Marlboro Chew Will Be A Mega Hit
      maven,

this is now officially a "marlboro" brand now. While "chew" users are "not as loyal" as smokers, they are still some of the most brand loyal folks out there.

remember, this is not you father's "chew". it is new

there was an interesting blog post out there about this. he speculated that RIMM is actually the big winner because the iphone will draw attention to the whole smart phone spectrum.

since RIMM has the most economical products available on ALL networks, they will benefit..

      I agree

No position in RIMM, do own a blackberry

      Apple: Priced for Perfection
      John,

I have "no bone" with Apple. I have said many times it is a great company, i just do not think a $600 phone from only 1 provider on a lousy network will be anything more than a bit product...

      simple

I also believe I said "lower the price to $299" and it will sell big?

      thomas,

you seem to miss the essence of the "blog". that is what we do, draw conclusions from information as we see it. right or wrong, time will tell.....

"commentary" involves drawing a conclusion, "reporting" is a recitation after the fact. If the SA editors wanted that here they would not need us, they would simply cut and paste from newspapers. You also would not be reading all my posts like you do.... no?

as for MSFT, I think the worst thing a company can have happen to it is irrelevance or apathy, MSFT has achieved that
