  • Rail Traffic Points To More Muddle Through [View article]
eh. rail car movements say very little outside of what's going on with the railroad company. of course whenever i hear a press release that says "Chinese investors to the rescue" all i can think of is Greece. would you like the hear the latest?

  • Do The Fertilizer Stocks Really Stink As Bad As The Market Thinks? [View article]
potash depletes your water table and must be used with great care. it can increase yields massively in a short period of time...but it can also create very dry conditions even in places where water isn't an issue.

  • Is It Time To Buy Freeport-McMoRan? 2 Insiders Just Paid Over $42.8 Million [View article]
if "some nation out there" decided it wanted to back it's worthless paper with a piece of copper the it stands to reason there would be value....perhaps extraordinary this product. an all electric car probably uses a bunch of copper for its "engine" so i can in theory see that as a plus. i don't see that presented here as an argument however.

  • The Real Economic Truth About U.S.-China Monetary Ties [View article]
the "equation" is very simple: the USA produces too much. always has, always will. contrary to popular belief...we consume very little. there are of with any "market based economy" (and the USA is still a market based economy.) the biggest mistake anyone can make however is to call the US economy "consumer based." it is in fact "capital based" and so as China develops it allows for the USA to finally start "outsourcing" its massive glut of production (steel, glass, wood, food, cars, cotton, paper...the list is endless.) this worked exceptionally well in the 90's when "pricing power" reached levels probably never seen in human history. it hasn't worked well since. interesting article...look forward to more.

  • Timberland Investing: What You Need To Know Now [View article]
concrete and rebar have had a nice move this year. wood and "wood products" strike me as highly discretionary. exactly where do you think the demand will be coming from for this very valuable product? i do see certain utilities are using wood fired boilers to generate electricity. this strikes me as highly odd but hey..."anything for the juice" as they say.

never heard of ' your "never heard of 'em" plays. is it safe to argue that at some point the USA might have a million producing wells by the time this boom ends? sure they might only be producing 100 barrels of oil a day but it's not like they take a lot of room once they've been capped.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [View article]
deficit spending in and of itself need not be bad...if it is spent on bailing out Wall Street trading strategies and financial schemes it does seem rather inefficient...especially when the bulk of the trillions goes into housing which is a depreciating asset probably worth 1/10th what the government "minders" claim it is. i certainly wouldn't short the debt tho! i would argue slashing food stamps is a rather odd "solution." raising the retirement age doesn't seem like a good one either. bailing out Detroit seems out of the question now. so does bailing out every city in the country since Detroit is pretty much a slam dunk to get it running again. that would be WITHOUT all the debt of course.

  • It's Time To Buy This Iconic American Stock [View article]
Harley's prime competitor is Polaris not Honda as unlike Honda Harley doesn't get a massive bailout every year. Nor does Yamaha as i understand it. the beauty of a harley is you can maintain the bike yourself. they probably do fuel injection now which is too bad since those things get hacked into regularly as we all now know. luckily..."it's just you and the motorcycle." for larger vehicles...obviously..... is a problem."
