Unless Obama gets us into a war with Iran, I don't think defense stocks are where you want to be near-term. The earnings transcripts from a number of defense contractors expect lower growth.
Then again, you never know what's going to happen. Most of us didn't predict 9/11 and the War on Terror. Who knows what the future holds for an aggressive Russia, China, etc.
I've read a number of articles from Scott Sacknoff, and I wish he would go into a little more detail.

The Dreamliner was supposed to begin production in May of this year. Then it became 2009, now it's late 2009, and who knows what effect this strike will have.
It screws not only Boeing but all the aerospace/defense stocks who sell to Boeing. Great job, McNerney.

Both ITA and PPA have underperformed the S&P 500 this year...they've been terrible etf's to own in 2008.
