I agree with Simple Simon, the real competition in this space is a very short supply, and with it real innovation.

"Software plays catch up." - perhaps now there is also a need in education catch up, so management can learn how to produce ROI from investment into technology. There is a gap opening up in the marketplace.

Why Is Salesforce.com’s S&M Expense So High?
Am I to infer that the ratio of CRM Sales/Marketing to R&D expenses should not be compared to other S/W companies, but viewed as a sum of all members of their "ecosystem"? Presumably members of ApplicationsXchange platform care disproportional share of their sale expenses because CRM doing their heavy lifting. Perhaps it is reasonable suggestion, but lack of transparency kills any opportunity of comparative analysis for risk/reward.

Re Politician wants to age-limit energy drinks. That would be a first step in a right direction - legalize drugs. Just imagine positive impact on our economy if we would stop wasting billions on unnecessary law enforcement, military operations abroad, and jailing millions of people. Well, that would be too sane, never mind.

Google and Salesforce: Why Don't They Just Merge?
Why on Earth would Oracle want to buy Salesforce.com? Larry already have acquired more companies/products in that space that they know what to do with, and these do have licenses and support cash flow under contract. Functionally, CRM integration with email/tasking/calendar... is an absolute necessity, and every customer's investment into this on their own is wasteful, but this "half baked" alliance is yet to show they can do it right. There is more ways than one to skin a cat.

      Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News
Soros vs Greenspan. This is an ideologically colored debate in an economic arena - Social Liberal Democrat, who believes the Government, can do ANYTHING vs Objectivist Libertarian. As long as one remembers that these are believes and opinions, rather than superior knowledge, we can pace our bets and enjoy the entertainment.

Behind the Myths of Cloud Computing
Just leave it to journalists and marketeers to lead us into yet another technology revolution. This is a price for true innovation to flourish, but a lot of shareholders money will be wasted in process by companies that would try to buy yet another "silver bullet" instead of focusing on improving effectiveness of their business model.

Who's on First, Services Oriented Architecture or Web Oriented Architecture?
Very interesting and thought provoking. However that focus on technology and yet "better" mouse trap, at the expense of underlying business processes quality, is what leads IT organizations to spiraling costs and diving satisfaction.

The next subprime? Adler's call sounds like nostalgia for 2K "good times" hoping to scare businesses into colossal spending campaign. Perhaps infrastructure investments are not a bad thing in recessionary time. Even if this recession is politically induced for election purposes.
