  • AIG: I Remain A Skeptic Despite Discount To Book Value And Appealing Earnings [View article]
You wrote a lot of positives about AIG. The only negatives that I read are:

    - bailout history
    - low return on capital

AIG has new management and repaid the government with a profit. To be bearish on AIG based on bailout history seems to be investing based on hindsight and emotions.

According to Yahoo, AIG has a P/B of 0.74. GM has a bailout history as well and it has a P/B of 2. Facebook has a ROC of 4.34% and Netflix has a ROC of 7.5%. Granted, Netflix is a growth company with a P/B of 18, so AIG does not deserve a P/B of 18, but what about a P/B of 1?

Is ROC even relevant to share price when Yahoo has declining revenue and has a ROC of 9.23% (but a P/B of 3.2), LinkedIn has a ROC of 2% and Twitter and Groupon (flattened revenue with P/B of 8.79) have negative ROCs?

It seems that many investors pay little attention to fundamentals, but much more to technicals, bubbles (emotions) and the news.

  • Legal costs for major U.S. banks top $100B [View news story]
That's one of the reasons their stocks are so depressed and under-priced.

Once all of the costs are behind them, they will recover and normalize.

Financial crisis, Japan tsunami, Europe and debt ceiling tanked stocks. In the long run, none of them mattered. Neither will Syria.

Goldman had CLF on their list of 40 most overbought stocks? Now they say CLF is one of the most shorted?

A huge percentage of Goldman Sachs' revenue is from trading. Do you think they are motivated to make their trades before their research arm pushes out ratings? Do you think they are motivated to get their research arm to push stocks and down like a yo-yo?

Are you saying that investing in BAC is investing in both value and growth? It's rare to get to invest in both value and growth.

  • Citigroup: Cheapest Of The Big Banks, With 45%+ Upside Potential [View article]
    Good article and good points.

I think the main reason the bank stocks are still depressed is because of hatred towards the bank bailouts. Once this hatred dissipates, then the stocks should normalize.
