Manitwoc Seeing Increase in Short Interest
I'm guessing the shorts would go away if they cancelled their desire for the cookware company .. Well.. Then again, maybe they need some short-order cooks! ... What's next, Tupperware? .. It dropped again today and I almost re-purchased... Hmmm...

      Thx jegan ;-)

10 Highest Yielding Semi-Annual Dividend Payers
Just bought half a position in CPL this AM.. Expect it to drop a bit more the next time the market turns down... It's a good story.... However, the others bother me a bit.... Several of them are financials, and although they are not US banks, the UK shows signs of that aggravating mange that we just went through...

Also, there are plenty of other dividend payers that not only pay higher, but are in hotter sectors .. Oil and Gas and Shipping .. Off the top of my head DRYS, FRO, HTE (which I wouldn't buy... ) PGH, ... Thx jegan ;-)

The Short Case on Home Inns & Hotels Management
Agree.... Good hotel chain.. And it should do well long term if you buy in the dips.. I did get out as I agree that they are already booked for the Olympics. If I recall, their P/E is a little high and their compensation for the management is obscure... However, they offer what is described as a "Holiday Inn Express" or "Comfort Inn" type of experience. Clean and professionally set up with WIFI for the business traveller. Also, I believe that they are pretty well set up in all the major locations and are now filling in in less desireable areas. However, after the Olympic rush, buying between $18 and $19 might be good for the long term... Lets face it, China isn't going away..

      Thx jegan ;-)

      Doug Kass's Killer Shorts - Barron's
I was looking at Brk:B this morning. It is trending down .. (I could barely afford one share of Brk:A - Cough! Cough!.. ) and I think it will be bottoming at a little above $3800 in late July, early August .. Then as noted in a prior Alpha, will perform it's normal run-up beginning in Sept or October. Particularly if there is little in the way of storm activity to affect the insurance end of BH...

Mr. Ward....Did the French kill the project 'because it may cause quakes', or because a 'quake might kill the project' ??? Just curious... I too like geo-thermal.... Just look what it is doing for Iceland... Don't understand why Hawaii doesn't take advantage of it...

      Russian Energy and U.S. Implications
I'm impressed that Israel, Iceland and Brazil can aim for energy independence (as well as the countries named above..) and the US can't get out from in front of the train...

As an aside.. Does anyone really care about Donald Trump....I mean, come on.. he's a reality show star now.. Ranks right up there with the 'little people' family, has-been child stars, has been rock stars and the 'Kardashians'... And who are these Kardashians anyway????

      Housing Starts Rebound?
Is Mr. Lindmark then suggesting we should buy 'multi-family' and eschew 'single-family homes'? The author did not differentiate. He states simply that the much noted uptick does not exist.

      E*Trade Primed for a Breakout
I agree wholeheartedly with 'jackaroo' and have left Etrade because of the incompetent staff, the worthless replies to my emails, the endless waits on the phone with replies that were proven to be incorrect, the lack of follow through on their promises, lack of responses to my letters to the acting CEO, and their inability to fix any of the multitude of problems that they instigated. In fact, dealing with ETrade became a part-time job for me.

The fact that one postee notes that after 500 calls, he has never been put on hold for more then 30 minutes begs the question.. 'Why in God's name should anyone ever have to call them 500 times anyway?'.

I've said it before.. Can't imagine why anyone would buy this stock and in particular why they would hand over real money to these losers.

      Thx jegan ;-/

Who Will Be the Next Homebuilder to File Chapter 11??
Can't remember the name of the company here in Sacramento .. A good mid-sized local upper middle class builder. 30+ Years .. They're filing and there's another company that is also filing .. Unfortunately, don't recall the names.. Probably a mental block .. Zwillo.com just reported my neighborhood has dropped 24% this year. (I can't be in pain, I'm still smiling!) ... Ob-la-di!!!

      Heeding Market Warnings
My gut feeling is that as suggested in 'Future Shock' and 'The world is Flat', that everything is speeding up... I just finished reading the Nicholas Darvas book 'How I made $2,000,000 in the Stock Market' ... Good reading and lot of lessons to be learned... I guess what impressed me most is the fact that he was a dancer and invested his earnings... I think a lot of what drives the market now are retirement IRAs funded by companies. The other item of note was that he was reading a newspaper and 'calling or cabling' his broker for trades... A much slower business than the online brokerage that most of us use today.

These two points suggest to me that the old 'buy and hold', or 'purchase an index fund', just doesn't work for the MTV generation.

      Thx jegan ;-)
