  • A Critical Day for Commodities: Wheat, Aluminum and Copper  [View article]
India's largest steel smelter is proposing to reduce it's product by 40% in an effort to encourage mills to buy. IMHO, this will just cause another bout of price deflation in steel and resulting drop in steel companies and ore.

Who knows. Soon we may be buying brand new cars at $1000 a pop and filling them with 25 cent gas!

  • Alcoa: Analyst Downgrades and Price Cuts; Looks Like a Bottom [View article]
I'm looking at the chart for the SP500.. The priceline looks like a bottom, but, the technicals don't. If it doesn;t hold here, then next stop is 770?

If you compare any stock you own, you'll see that it pretty much tracks the SP500 - or if you will, the inverse of the dollar. As the dollar rises, the market drops. Just read that the EU and Britain in particular are expected to drop their rates again. I suspect that means that the Asian countries and Australia (which has been really hammered lately) will follow suit. If they drop their rates, and as we really have no further to go down, unless we want to join the 'Japan Club', then the dollar will rise as money makes its way over to what is perceived as a stronger currency. Bingo! The market drops some more!

Whether it happens this week, or later (if we get a rally), AA should also drop further.

I do feel everyone's pain. I only have to look at my AAPL and RIMM holdings... But... I suspect we have more ugliness to come.

    Sorry! jegan ;-(

  • Clueless - Cramer's Mad Money (10/8/08) [View article]
I agree with 'Afterthought'.. I watch Cramer just as I watch CNBC, Fastmoney, Bloomberg and read SeekingAlpha for ideas. Anyone stupid enough to take **anything** on any of these venues deserves to have his or her head served on a platter.

First: According to Hulbert, Cramer's track record is no better or wrse than any other 'market shill'... I think Fischer and a couple of others had better hit rates.

Second: Buying is easy. Where you put your stops is as important. Cramer does not provide entry and exit points.

Thirdly: Can anyone be that stupid as to think that our stock market drop is a Cramer related issue. The DOW just dropped another 400 points. We are now well below the magic 10K. The market is not paying any attention to Cramer. What we have is a defective administration, a bunch of liars and crooks in our banking system and a global meltdown. (By crooks, I mean people like the management of AIG that were begging the Fed for tablescraps one day and dropping $400,000 on a party for their management the next.)

Fourth: I don't care what your position is in this market yesterday. If you can't change your mind tomorrow, then kiss your stack goodbye. Yes, Cramer was calling for a bottom just weeks ago. Maybe I blinked and missed that bottom, but all I see is an elevator going down. All I have heard since last December for almost anyone is "The bottom is almost here!" (You want to kick someone.. Kick that gass-bag Larry Kudlow). Cramer was probably the last guy to come out and call a bottom. Of course, all those other gung-ho types are now changing their minds now. So, he was wrong. What do you want him to do? Pull a Dubya and sit on his thumbs!

    Geeze!

  • Earnings Preview: Alcoa [View article]
I was just on the Scientific American website .. They had an interesting video "World's deepest living fish caught on film"... These fish live 5 miles under the sea! Remarkable! The pressure on these fish is comparable to (according to the video) having 111 Elephants standing on a Mini Cooper!

I'm beginning to think that I'll join these sociable fish and bottom-pick only when they do..
