  • Royal Dutch Shell's Positive Outlook [View article]
Buy RDS-B, the British branch of Royal Dutch, quoted in London to avoid any possible Dutch tax complications. Also: Shell (Royal Dutch) was "always" listed in NY (not: "since 2005"), even long before XOM and CVX. The listing of XOM and CVX is relatively recent, inasmuch as these companies were formed by megamergers (e.g. XOM = Esso + Mobil). Without the mergers (how about our antitrust laws ?) RDS would be the biggest non-state oil company in the world.

Wish and hope you are 100 per cent right about CHK. Would prefer you use 'reason' instead of 'belief'. As you may know or not know, Gallileo disproved belief once and for all.

David White: Fair enough, the figures you obtained are interesting, and I hope correct. At $100/bl oil, no argument. Towards $70/bl oil, investors would start asking questions. Also, your estimate of 500,000 bls "ultimately recoverable" per well should be associated with a probability figure. What is the chance of obtaining this recovery ? Do you mean to say it's 100% ? Perhaps it's only 5%. Results of single wells should not be extrapolated without maps and seimic data, even then...... Do they drill on-structure , or do they drill just as well off structure into the geological lows ? No seismic would then be needed. "The potential" seems enormous. Should we withdraw all cash from the Credit Unions , and invest in CHK.? If not, why not ?

Old people like me are rightly suspicious about CHK's claims. Surely there are millions of net acres and enormous shale volumes involved. Production by fraccing is proven fact, and apparently profitable at today's oil prices. If prices drop, however, as happened recently the risk factor for these shale deposits increases, and the Expectation (risked volumes) must decrease. Also, what is the Recovery Factor for oil from these deposits (i.e. prducible oil vs oil in place). Chesepeake and other producers are not very forthcoming with such data.

David White: "RDS having trouble paying some near term bills " ??

Is this a joke (or a contrarian view ) ?

As I said, RDS and CHK are two different worlds.

RDS (-B and -A), international major, is a different world from CHK. Furthermore, the yield on RDS is not 2.8% but 5.6% ! (mistake introduced by finance.yahoo.com and blindly copied by everybody else). Last quarterly dividend paid July 27 2011 was 2 x $0.42/share, as one ADR share as quoted in N Y corresponds to TWO shares of RDS as quoted in London and Amsterdam.
