  • Update: Memorial Production Partners' $150M Buyback Is A Huge Positive [View article]
Thank you, but I am trying to understand the process for how to take unallowed losses into consideration. When one gets the Sales Worksheet from the MLP it supposedly provides info for taxes. One of the columns in
the table is "Cumulative Adjustments to Basis." Does this include the cumulative unallowed losses of the MLP?

Brad, with respect to analysts' ratings, you are being modest. Listening to analysts versus Brad Thomas is like comparing Night to Day.

    Garypt1,

I am very familiar with Fidelity's Starmine ratings. In my opinion, they are worthless. They are generated by analysts, for which their is no consequence if they are wrong. If you focus on Fundamentals, how can you go wrong, unless you are a Day Trader? If you are reading Brad's articles, it will provide you the perspective you need to filter information into intelligence for investing in REITs.

  • Simple Rules For MLP Investing [View article]
Very informative article. With regard to "For 2013 - The Correlation of Total Returns to Distribution/DCF Ratios:" MMP is included in the list of MLPs with "Distribution/DCF ratios of less than 85%" and in the list of MLPs with "Distribution/DCF ratios of greater than 85%."

  • Can Your Retirement Portfolio Handle A Position In An mREIT Stock? [View article]
Brian, my philosophy is similar. It is too hard to make up for losses, and the probability of failure is too high with mREITs. I have read a similar position from Bob Wells.

    Brad,
Thanks for a very good article. Why are analysts so negative on "O?"
    Currently, the ratings are:.

    Ned Davis Sell
    Ford Equity Sell
    Thompson Reuters Sell
    EVA Neutral
    Zachs Neutral
    McLean Sell
    Columbine Underperform
    GMI Neutral

Merrill Lynch and Trading Central are "Buy," although not included in StarMine report.
Should we just ignore the Analysts. I think they are like Weather Forecasters. There job is to be wrong most of the time without any consequence.

Thanks for sharing your portfolio. It seems hard to find an attractive water utility. AWK seems to have a high P/E and PEG relative to its peers; however, I like the dividend history so far. Can you share your thought process in selecting this utility.
