I'm a chemist by long-ago education, and retired from a quasi-engineering position in the auto industry. My relevant interest is in the workings of the economy and causes of GDP growth, inflation and the business cycle. I believe the great stagnation is largely the result of a bloated finance sector that encourages the mis-allocation of resourses from legitimate investment to non-value-added speculative activities - de facto rent seeking. This has been aided and abetted by lax regulation and a close to flat tax structure. My irrelevant interest is in writing and music. I'm an active amateur musician playing jazz and classical music, and a less active composer and arranger.
