Accuray's Cancer Blaster vs. Intuitive's Surgical Robot [view article]
A couple of things here Travis:1. ARAY has no direct competition as their machine is the only one that allows for the 360 degrees roation and the patient does not have to be restrained by the normal methods, especially when treating cancer in the brain. All other competitors have only gantry mounted machines and are not as accurate when dispensing the radiation. Cyberknife is the only radiation machine licensed by FDA to treat all types of cancer.
2. ARAY does have recurring revenue. Some of the machines installed are co-owned by the hosiptals and Accuray. Also there are recurring revenues from the yearly maintenance contracts that the hospitals buy. This allows them to get automatic software upgrades without paying extra. Each machine is basically kept up with the latest cutting edge technology.
