  • Potential KFT trade
    I’m looking at a potential trade on KFT involving taking on a short in anticipation of an upped offer for Cadbury.
     
    If I were to do this I wouldn’t hold the short very long as I don’t believe that would be very wise and this would strictly be trying to time an official release to back all of the current news stories around this.

  • WNR
    The action in WNR over the last two days appears to have been a selloff, (or what I would call a shake off), with accumulation on the other end I suspect.
     
    When I see something like this on a stock that I follow this closely then that usually tells me to accumulate myself and that’s what I go with.

  • Analyst action on WLP and UNH
    An analyst report came out today and upgraded WLP citing disciplined pricing and downgraded UNH citing commercial plan pricing and something to do with Medicare problems.
     
    When I first read this I couldn’t believe what I was reading and not because I’m short WLP but because I have no idea what any of this has to do with the current political environment that we are in because these stocks are not going to trade on business model until we can at least see what the business model will be and I firmly believe that this is going to be decided for them, (meaning the health insurers), and not by them.

  • Western Refining
    Western Refining, (WNR), had a strong move today with the volume on the shares being about 3.5x normal and the call options were strong at several strikes going forward with emphasis on the October 5, 7.50, and 10 dollar strikes as well as the December 7.50 and 10 dollar strikes.
     
    WNR in my opinion is the most undervalued refiner of the independents in the refining sector at this time. I’ve been long WNR for quite some time and I’m familiar with the moves in the stock back to the days of Giant Industries whom Western acquired.

  • Health Insurance Stocks P3
    The COO of Cigna, (CI), came out today and reiterated that the health insurer expects to have extra cash to pursue mergers and acquisitions or share buybacks next year.
     
    He must have forgotten to get this memo out to the other insiders of CI who appear to have been selling shares at a pretty good pace lately.
