    • Has Apple Hit a Wall in Music Innovation? [view article]
The iPod touch is now nicely positioned to compete with Sony and Nintendo's handheld gaming devices. Remember the holidays are coming, and Nintendo and Sony have not had any significant product refreshes for some time in that segment. Sony's PSP is positioned as a handheld gaming device that features gaming, video (including more than 460 feature films, TV programs and music videos available on UMD™ disc, music, photo, and web browser. Those are all things that the iPod Touch does better. Some will argue that the Touch is not for hardcore gaming because of the lack of physical buttons, but I think the accelerometer gives the touch a Wii-like advantage over its competitors.

With "the funnest iPod ever", it appears that Apple is aiming to take some market share from Sony and Nintendo this holiday shopping season.

Mr. Salmon's post is rather useless. More specifically, what little analysis is presented is fact flawed and misleading. It is true that the data portion of the plan increases by $10 per month, but the consumer is getting 3G. It is reasonable for the carrier to charge more for significantly faster data speeds.

Furthermore, his comments about Apple's new service called MobileMe (me.com) reflects a fundamental lack of understanding about the service and its features. MobileMe is not merely exchange for the rest of us, but instead offers may useful features that complement the iPhone and allow users of the service to have greater access to their information from virtually anywhere. If you doubt my comments, simply take a look at me.com and review the features for yourself. At $99 per year, it represents a good value for many users.

Thomas Hawk makes some excellent points. AppleTV -- Take 2 has some much needed improvements, but there is plenty of room to improve it. For example, it still only plays 720P instead of 1080i or 1080P (www.apple.com/appletv/...). While I do not want or need a DVD player or DVR as part of Apple TV, have those options may widen the appeal of the product.
