Further Thoughts on Trina Solar and the Solar Space
TSL is trading in the $37 range this morning. Along with CSIQ, STP, and LDK.
Heck of a great time to buy!

Why I'm Not Cutting Back Trina Solar before Earnings
Here's the quote from the LDK Q1 report:
"For the full year of fiscal 2008, LDK Solar currently estimates:

-- Revenue to be in the range of $1.08 billion to $1.18 billion; -- Wafer shipments in the range of 560 MW to 580 MW; -- Gross margin in the range of 23% to 28%; and -- Annualized wafer production capacity to be 1.1 GW by the end of 2008 and 2.0 GW by the end of 2009."

Why I'm Not Cutting Back Trina Solar before Earnings
"For the full year of 2008 the Company expects total net revenues to be in the range of $770 million to $808 million, with PV module shipments between 200 MW to 210 MW. The Company is expecting gross margin for the year between 23% and 25% and believes operating margin will likely be in the range of 15% to 17% of total net revenues."

Looks like your number of $4.00 eps for 2008 is about double what the actual number will end up being.

And, TSL margins for all of 2008 are forecast to be less than LDK's.

Now what do you think of TSL?

Now that all the solars have reported, I would like to see someone make a table of all of them to compare:
projected 2008 eps, revenue, megawatts expected to be shipped, and gross margins. Wouldn't that be nice.

Shipping is Shaping Up - Cramer's Lightning Round (5/27/08)
Gebby, exactly my thoughts.....Do the opposite of Cramer and you'll be right over 65% of the time. Sell FSLR and buy LDK.

Some people have said that when Cramer recommends a stock it's the kiss of death and it immediately tanks.

Cramer is entertaining however you never want to follow his advice unless you want to throw money away.

      Thursday Outlook: Crude Awakening
Quit blaming our elected politicians, get behind good ole American capitalism and support Boone Pickens efforts for wind farms and CNG for vehicles like the Honda Civic GX.

We've got all the natural gas right here in the USA to power our vehicles, buses, and trucks.....Just need the infrastructure for re-fueling to be put in place. Most large cities are already converting many of their transit buses to CNG.

In addition to wind farms, add in a healthy dose of large solar arrays in the Southwest and other choice locations and pretty soon we can export our vast coal reserves and turn around our trade surplus.

Nothing wrong with dreaming is there?

Margin Concerns Make LDK Solar Vulnerable to Profit Taking
Don't you just love it when the comments are more informative, and have numbers to back it up, than the writers article!

Compare net margins and you'll see that LDK has approximately 2X the net margin of TSL.

Look to 2009 and you'll see that LDK will have 3X or more net margin than TSL.

      There's a Solar Shakeout Coming - Citigroup
Interesting that this article, like the talking heads on Fast Money, only focus on the USA solar manufacturers.

For a better comparison, and a look at the P/E's of a broader range of Solar Stocks, the reader might want to check out this site: www.cnanalyst.com/sola... with the latest comparison table dated May 7, 2008.

Here are the 2008 P/E's (from Low to High) of a few solar stocks listed there, but only those with Net Margins in the Positive: TSL@13, WFR@15, SOLF@20, LDK@21, YGE@24, JASO@26, STP@28, SPWR@39, and FSLR@97.

Solar stocks with Negative net margins are ESLR, CSIQ, and others.

As the gentleman above said, do your own DD.

Another excellent write up on the solars. Keep them coming.

I do however agree with gebby that you need to update your estimated 2008 earnings for SOL and STP. Your earnings number for '08 on LDK is probably a little conservative.
