I agree with Rob L here, no reason for Apple not to go to $300
the halo effect continues to expand

Apple Facing Serious Downside Risk - Morgan Keegan
It's a good perspective but Keegan is not taking into consideration the June conference which is most likely going to bring a 3G Phone with many juicy updates. If this should happen any negative thought should dissipate and soon they will raise target.
45 mil iPhones sold is not an outrageous number, if and when Apple enters .. South america, China, India, Australia, Canada and the rest of Europe . The catalyst is certainly a 3g phone.
I could see some downside 25-30% if Apple misses estimates or ipod sales are lower than estimated but no serious downturn for the next 6-8 months

      General Discussion on AHR
Actually if anything AHR is a lower risk REIT here's a snippet from Chris Milner

"Anthracite's CEO, punctuated the point in his Q4 earnings release: "The dislocation in the capital markets continued to worsen in the fourth quarter, causing CMBS spreads to reach unprecedented levels. While this development clearly has resulted in negative price changes in our portfolio, the relatively better performance of our non-U.S. and seasoned vintage U.S. CMBS assets muted the overall impact."

Anthracite Capital Deserves More Than Cramer's Cliffs Notes
AHR has great management , it's one of those reit that needs to be held long term , their exposure to residential loans is minimal they are very diversified . I don't consider AHR riskier than any other REIT

Is There a Mobile Phone Recession?
on top of that, teens that used to be ok with a basic cell/mp3 player /camera phone are now looking for something more thanks to Apple for raising the bar.
Motorola is the first victim, Palm and RIMM are 2 companies that are better positioned to compete and profit from this situation.
Even though Palm is in big troubles they can come out of the slump by
      introducing new low cost models

Considering cell phone companies had decades to develop their devices ,
Yet cell phones are pretty much the same as they were 10 years ago ....
it doesn't look good for them and as of now, Apple is still ahead of the game while they work on the next iphone killer Apple is already working on a new model

Expecting Apple to Reach $300 in 2008
Best article/analysis I have read in a long time not only you did your homework but it is well written ...

I believe the 50% growth is a very safe estimate, Apple could easily top that.. you have not taken in consideration (rightly so) new products/services and of course the impact the iPhone will have outside of the US.
You could easily quadruple iPhone sales estimates if it catches on in China, Russia and even South America, these countries are also a domain of MS and cheap PCs like acer .. will there also be an halo effect in these countries as well ???

The Case of the Disappearing iPhones
that is certainly possible but why the shortage of the original iPhones??
and if it is a component shortage why isn't the iPod touch suffering from the same issues.. something is brewing at Apple

The Case of the Disappearing iPhones
Don't try to over analyze this .. the fact is that the 3G phone is around the corner and Apple is clearing inventory , most people think it will be coming in June but it is quite possible it will be introduced or announced sooner ..

Who iPhone Owners Are - And What They Want
actually at any apple store you get brand new one if you return a defective one new and a a refurbished if the one returned is refurbished .. same goes for laptops and desktops
However I returned a refurbished macbook just 2 weeks ago and the apple store guy gave me a brand new one after 24 hours, not even a refurbished one but a brand new same model MB, mine had a defective keyboard/trackpad..

One Reason Apple May Be Hoarding $18 Billion
raman .. Apple never borrowed any money from microsoft, you must be a PC switch... :-)
MS invested $150 mil which at the time was not much, there where a few individual investors that invested more, Apple always had a nice stash of $$$ even in the darker times , no debt and a decent customer base.

Since I'am a long investor since the early 90's, I totally back Steve Jobs positions on this.... as a shareholder i'd rather Apple keep their 18bil for R&D and some acquisitions if necessary.

Apple and United Technolgies: Bargains Amidst the Recession News
Totally agree , if Apple holds around $140 then they are back on track to run to $170 by June and possibly brake the $200 barrier if the Q results are as good or better than expected, since Apple has historically beat the estimates this might be the case yet again , maybe this time it will surprise even more than usual because everyone is expecting a weak ipod/iphone number , but they might surprise .
Of course this is all speculation
      til June
