  • Best Short Idea In 2014: Organovo Holdings, Inc. [View article]
Jake, where you on the Cellular Dynamics (ICEL) 4th qtr earnings conference call that just ended about an hour ago? What did you think? President did not instill as much confidence in me for near term growth as I hoped for. That is such a subjective opinion I'm almost ashamed to admit it here. Could be just his style. Who knows. Kind of danced around some of analysts question(s).
I am hoping for continued quarterly improvement from them. In and out of the stock once already, I am back in at 14 and change and like the story though and personalities involved, too.

Mymomsays were you hiding in Zucks office when he was pounding on his management staff with those exact same questions? I heard that he flunked his philosophy class because he was studying Sun Tzu instead. Should serve him well going forward.

Holy ambiguity, Batman. "Price will eventually get to single digit" Every to time I try to hang my hat on "eventually" it always falls on the floor. Could you give me something a little firmer to hang my hat on, please?

Puppies don't fly. They stumble and flop around and soon they become adult dogs. Sorry, Don, but your "puppy" comment got me going. But I've found that SW Michigan Trader has a nose like a hound for these IPO's so I'm gonna get a piece of the action and let this doggie hunt!!!

  • mREIT Stock Buy Backs: The Impact On Dividends [View article]
Some back and forth commentary from Dr. B's June 28 article suggested an ongoing performance contest between AGNC and MORL with the implication that AGNC was a better investment due to less risk/leverage. Interesting idea that is really interesting now as the prices of both are incredibly close at around19.60 each, and a perfect spot to begin such a contest.

Why does Yahoo show the payout ratio for NLY and AGNC to be around 40-50% then? It shows WMC as N/A.

  • Annaly Capital: How Bulls Can Overcome Cognitive Dissonance [View article]
I tend to agree with Chuckleh. Personally, I need income, plain and simple. I have no choice. I am old and cannot work to supplement my income. I am not able or motivated to own income property, or run a side business.

So, I see one avenue to get what I need to be dividends. And the more the better. I do value capital preservation because my nest egg is my one and only golden goose and if it is killed I will be reduced to more welfare in addition to Soc Security. This outcome and my need for as much div income as I can muster are in constant conflict. I pay attention to the big picture and the small details. I watch things. I read. And then I make decisions. Sometimes I decide to change. Some times I don't. I watched AGNC go from $29 to $34 and back off to $28 when I bought. Then I sold at about $33. Now it's in the low $20's and I bought again. I'll take the .80 cents, or .65 or .50 per quarter. If it drops to $19 +/- I'll probably sell.

If it (less dividend) means I can only go to Zion or Bryce Canyon in Utah on my lifetime $10 national parks membership, rather than the Yellow mountains of China, so be it. I invest/gamble with eyes wide open and fully comprehend the risk I take. But my need for dividends trumps all for me, at least right now. When I'm too old to travel and enjoy life I plan to throttle back on the high dividend / income need. And if I kill myself falling off a mountain then who cares?
So, if the forthcoming reduced dividends and unrealized capitol losses only allow me to see the beautiful USA rather than watch beautiful women walk up and down the Avenue des Champs-Elysees while I sip a $12 can of Coke......oh well.

Besides I'm not so sure NLY, AGNC, etc are all that risky. One learns a lot about about risk after owning such gems as Harnischfeger, Marshall & Isley, Palm, etc,.

NICE. At this pace they should have positive earnings vs. improving losses next year. Especially, if those new salespeople gain traction.
