VFC,
Thanks for the article. As I remember 2009,HGSI was the first biotech stock that I had made the most of money ever. Sold them from $11 to $24/share. During 2009,I had to pick between DNDN and HGSI. I like both of the stocks. I didn't have that much of money, but managed to put all my money in HGSI alone. Before Lupus NEWs. A little bit regretted because I sold too early, didn't wait untill $30/share. I was new to trade on biotech at that time. As you stated on this article,HGSI will slowly recover it. It's just a matter of time......I was paying HGSI around $2 t0 $2.69/share in 2009 before Benlysta . So now is around this price is not bad at all, just to start a new position. If I have the money,I'll buy HGSI and DNDN back. Now I'm in AFFY,waiting to make some money before looking into DNDN & HGSI again. Thanks for great article. GL

        ccm13,
"My understanding that this rule was just for the assumption that you want to write off the loss?"
I just finished my income tax yesterday also. From my experiences,I have been trading my traditional IRA for couple years already. The IRS don't care if I loss or I gain in my portfolio. I don't need to write it off for my loss. The IRS will tax me only when I cash the money out of my traditional IRA. Which will be 20%. Because I am under 59 and half,I knew for sure that they will penalize me 10% on top of 20%(I am not assuming). I knew for sure. I cashed it out at one point. With regular trading,we can only write off the loss only $3,000/year. When you do your tax,ask you tax preparer and you will know what am I talking about.

I don't have ROTH IRA,but I have traditional IRA. In my Fidelity and Etrade's IRA, I can hold stocks from .25 cents up to $10 or higher prices. I'm just like you, looking to own cheaper stocks. I buy and sell some of the stocks in my IRA's account . After you sell, you have to wait for 30 days to buy the stock back(call Wash-sell)...Check with your tax preparer. I would assume that ROTH IRA might work the same way as traditional IRA. GL
