  • Recession Presents Challenge to Apple's Mac That Competes on Features, Not Price  [View article]
Apple has chosen not to compete in the low end (low margin) computer space. Lowering pricing even temporarily for any reason runs the risk of brand destruction. Apple's consistency on pricing has enabled them to maintain quality and this has translated into the company's good fortunes.

Weathering this economic downturn with their business model intact should make for a stronger position when the economy turns around. 25 billion in case gives them the luxury to wait out any trouble for quite some time.

  • Should Apple Investors Feel Good About Yesterday's Rally? [View article]
AAPL is NOT trading on fundamentals right now (nor are the rest of the markets) - it is a pointless exercise to 'guess' where AAPL stock is headed in the short term. What is of interest though is AAPL non-GAAP P/E for next year somewhere around 6.25 (that's after backing out $27/share in cash). This looks like a good point to 'invest' in AAPL (trading it is just too difficult right now).

I am backing up the truck - and will back it up some more if it breaks down to an even lower level.

  • Apple: Though Tempted, I Wouldn't Bite Just Yet [View article]
$80 share price less $25 cash/share would give you a $55 stock. If this should happen I would think the DOW would have to have lost another 2000 points. Possible, but I just don't see that scenario right now. If the bill is passed in congress soon I think we will be a lot closer than that to a bottom.

  • Apple in the Bargain Bin [View article]
I think even more significant is not where AAPL's P/E is today but rather its forward cash flow. When the analysts figure out that the real AAPL story lies in cash flow and not their P/E (due to AAPL's goofy accounting for the iPhone) they will see a company trading at 9x - 10x forward cash flow and we should see the stock priced accordingly.

  • iPhone Dev Problems: Whining or Real? [View article]
Truly only time will tell... Unless Apple takes draconian measures to lock out developers the App store will remain a gold mine for those willing to adhere to Apples 'rules'. As some developers will will no doubt leave in disgust there will always be others eager to take their place and code for the potential win-fall.

  • Why Apple Stock Is Poised To Go Flat - At Best [View article]
Ah, trolling for hits are we Mr. Verke?

If you really believed any of these talking points you wouldn't have bothered to even write the article....

  • Apple's Problems - Bad to the Core? [View article]
"Despite major problems in the last 18 months" - I would hardly call these problems "major" - The spotlight is on Apple and problems that affect 2 to 3 percent of users get blown up like some sort of disaster. This is way better than the industry norm of around 7 percent failure in electronic devices.

Anyway, another typical article fanning the flames of those looking for a chink in the armor. EVERY other business in Apple's field wishes they had their 'problems'...

  • Apple: An Antidote to iPhone Complacency [View article]
Very flawed article. Apple lost the BetaMax vs. VHS wars because of pricing in business. Unfortunate but true. Happens all the time in business.

You make not mention on the internet that truly was the force behind compatibility making platform independence a reality.

In business you need to make a product 10 times better than the competition to replace it. Will this happen? maybe someday, but for the foreseeable future there is not a company out there that can come up with a portable OS (like OS X) and package that in a well made device that utilizes ease of use like Apple. Microsoft could do this but it will take them years if they start now.

  • Apple: Great Company with Lofty Valuation - Due for Pullback [View article]
You fail to mention the over $23 per share that AAPL has in cash. This is not an insignificant amount should help ease your P.E. worries... And for a company that still seems to be growing at over 30 percent annually - with a tiny market share in their main business makes for a company that has a potentially very bright future that should be reflected in the stock price and valuation.

  • Apple's 3G iPhone: First Reviews Are So-So [View article]
Paul, I don't think we even read the same reviews... I saw a much different tenor to the articles than you did. I always thought that meeting or exceeding expectations was not considered so-so. With each reviewer pointing out some of the short-comings of the new iphone (their job by the way) to a man they agreed that it delivered on its promise.

  • Apple’s Component Strategy Shifts [View article]
I think everyone is missing the what Apple has just bought. I don't believe it's about another shift back to the PowerPC but rather they just rolled 150 very smart engineers well versed in low power management. This acquisition is more about software optimization and less about chip design (from Apple's point of view) -

Having said this it still remains possible that we see a chip of this design in future iPods and iPod Touch models where cross platform compatibility is not an issue.

Lastly, $300M is a drop in the bucket for a well placed design team. I for one look forward to seeing what comes of this acquisition....

  • How Can Apple Keep the iPod Relevant? [View article]
The answer is "iPod Touch" - this is the future of the iPod. While there will still be a demand for smaller 'music only' players, AAPL will build on the iPod name brand with wireless devices that play video and music but more importantly they will do email and internet. This is huge and will likely carry the iPod brand for the foreseeable future...

  • Apple's New iPhone Applications No Threat to RIM's BlackBerry [View article]
Not every RIMM customer is a teenager text messaging all day long. The iPhone is a NEW technology. It won't kill the Blackberry, but it has to lure some away from it (like me). Sure you can belittle the iPhone as a 'music and video player' but it is also a powerful connected tool will soon gain third party software. It may not beat RIMM at it's own game, but it will syphon off some of it's growth. To think otherwise is naive...
