The netting risk is significant. Let's hope the efforts at compressing exposures in a single netting facility happen soon enough. A major default or cluster of smaller defaults could cause significant liquidity pressures and recursive failures to deliver.

S&P Raises China's Rating, Derivative Losses Still a Concern
An S&P rating should be seen for what it is, an opinion in a sea of opinions nothing more or less. Many drops make an ocean, but the S&P drop is really no more special than the others. Peoples faith and belief in it only makes it more dangerous than others. Caveat Emptor.

VaR is like flying a plane with a broken altimeter that only works above 1000 ft. and then stick below 1,000 ft. There are mountains out there. Keep flying based on your broken altimeter and a you will eventually hit something. Use of VaR provides a dangerous level of comfort and familiarity with position exposures most of the time, but can't tell you where the mountains are.

      Irony in an Interconnected World
focusing on the potential cause of price growth from speculation is a specious argument. Not indicating the actual growth on the demand side/ dollar decline for global commodities etc is highly disingenuous. This form of article only serves excite the public to hunt out "speculators"... and is not constructive. Please provide more evidence of correlation or causation.
