I am a retired investor 10 years)living off of my dividends using a fairly high yield approach. I own 8 MLPs plus several telecom, Canadian companies, utilities and several others. You have to be willing to ride out these downdrafts but, so, far, my portfolio is considerably higher than I started with even after taking out hefty dividends to live well on. I have no pension income other than SS and IRA, if you want to count that. There was no company contribution to my IRA. only what I contributed. I am a firm believer in the High yield approach.
