  • GM: So Much More Than Just A High-Yield Stock [View article]
comments on gm are like political forum or yahoo message board unfortunately, this is about the stock not people's agenda. If you hate it so intensely, short it and see what happens

  • Investors' Psychological Miscarriage Of General Motors: 6 Rules To Live By [View article]
definitely not an easy trade (which have been very uncommon given the market highs), there are some glaring potential negatives here including the cyclical nature of automarket which could skew eps down. with that said, it reminds me a lot of aig, which had similar problems but eventually shot up 60% over ipo price under sound leadership and better earnings

  • With Apple Over $100, Time To Sell? [View article]
agree with comment that 18 pe is when to sell, looks like around 115, and likely in early 2015. Pulling back hard today but imo, this has one more run in it in the next 6 months which will represent exit point for buyers in 2013 like me

excellent article on gm and on deep value investing. buffet preaches about it all the time but no one ever listens and they go after the fast money

  • Celebrating Apple's New All-Time Highs With 4 Reasons For Caution [View article]
almost universal positive commentary but my tendency is to agree with lords. the laws of large numbers will catch up fast here, given revenue is 160-180B per year, it is extremely difficult to grow yoy. I bought last year with avg of 444 (pre split), held through rough times, and plan on selling 113-117, hopefully within 6 months

  • Apple's Payments Platform May Be Ready To Roll [View article]
How exactly is the mobile payment system going to be profitable? Are merchants really going to eat more fees just for this convenience, since it's theoretically in addition to the credit card fees? If you think about it, it's more of a tax on the merchants than anything else. I've always argued we already have mobile payments, they are called credit cards and they are super small and mobile.

With that said, I don't see how it can add a lot to eps. If they were to develop own super bit currency, that would be revolutionary.

  • Ford Vs. GM: Still Love Ford, But GM At 34%-35% Discount To Intrinsic Value [View article]
Too much emotion tied with gm, make things simple, only two things matter, price and value. IMO, value of gm is 45-50 based on future eps/cash/etc and current price is 34.7, plus 1.2 in dividend annually. Really, a no brainer for value investors. It was one of Tepper's biggest addition on last 13f for a reason, he is an expert in distressed assets which payoff intermediate long term

GM is highly attractive to deep value investors with long term horizon, like C. They are difficult to buy given current press but disciplined patient investors know that it is when to buy. Waiting is hard but it's how alpha is achieved, e.g. buffet, etc

  • Huge Problems In The Big Citi: Investors Should Look For Alternatives [View article]
Short sighted article that is backwards looking. Current article is like those on aapl in 2013 saying tc should be fired, aapl doomed, etc because of events like aapl maps. Those are the best times to buy distressed assets and wait them out. I have been an aggressive buyer of c over the last year and have the patience to wait 2-3 years for them to get an eps of 7 and sell 70-80. I have been buying distressed assets for 15 years and this is my current favorite (along with gm which can get eps of 4.5 in couple years and get to 48)

  • Apple's iWatch Profit Potential [View article]
agree with aniston, I am a doctor and already work 80+hours per week. Reimbursement has been cut to the bone and number of patients increasing with demographics. So these watches are going to transfer data points to doctors so we can monitor patients 24/7 365 days, even for hypochondriacs?, not a chance any doc will take that on.
Without question, i can tell you most people don't know about their general health (or take it for granted) and are not interested in knowing (ignoring calorie labels on fast food, etc)
If iwatch is for health, it will be self monitored. It will be a niche product for wealthy, health nuts, and aapl nuts.
IMO, if aapl brought out currency to compete with bit coin and perfected it, it would be the next revolution. I would definitely hold long position if they did that, or even put out a strong search engine to compete with google. Instead there is only talk of meaningless gadgets.

Mixed view on watch, I also don't think it is going to be innovative or a growth product. However, it will likely be a temporary hot product for the q it comes out, because of the aapl fanatics who will buy no matter what . I've said here for the last year the best time to exit aapl long is coming soon (sept-jan). My price target is 113 for exit. IMO, that may be hit either right near announcement of new product on anticipation or in january on anticipation of blowout er.

  • Avoid Deutsche Bank On Risk Of Financials Being Misstated [View article]
bac issued new shares couple years back at 11 but still ended up falling to 5. 30 isn't necessarily the bottom but i think it will be in the 28-31 region, for a speculative long term investment. It may be able to ge 20% return in one yr

  • Apple Inc.: When Should You Take Profits? [View article]
good article about question many longs have been pondering. my guess the best time to sell my long position will be between late sept right before hype of new iphone or right before jan earnings, for which the retailers will expect the world. Many times i have seen the trough to peak about 18 months, with aapl 385 last june, january 2015 looks ideal, plus can collect more divi before then. my price target is 113, if it hits that at anytime, i will get out.

what do the author or other investors make of the huge jump in short interest from 6/30-7/15 from 8 to 40 million share short. That's an enormous leap and likely at institutional level given it requires billions of dollars.
