Three Strikes from Apple and Palm May Be Out [View article]
This guy is making dumb comments as usual. It just doesn't add up. Smartphone sales skyrocket, yet one of the leaders in the category is dead? huh? Makes no sense. The actual trends just don't agree with this.

Back it again again brewdog! i thought you would be quiet after your rim "creative" accounting blunder where you ignorantly wondered out loud how rim's margins could be decent when vz is offering bogo, not realizing vz is subsidizing the phone, and not rim.
in re the keyboard, funny that the iphone does that because rim's phones do that as well, and have for some time. again, ignorant of facts. please stop posting, i'm getting tired of pointing out your mistakes. it's fine to love your iphone, i love mine (but prefer to use the bb day to day), but at least try to be a little balanced in your approach.
besides, if apple has been leading tech since '79, the why for almost 30 years such low mkt share? just a question.

and of course only software matters and not air interface/data transmission technologies. while apple can write some serious code they don't understand yet the scarcities involved in mobile. their devices end up using so much bandwidth that carriers need to upgrade and upgrade. look at att's capex plans ahead of iphone launch in june. meanwhile rim approaches everything from an efficiency standpoint and compresses data that moves over the network. this gives them an advantage when it comes to carrier incentives. regardless of the nonsense written here, the macro picture means there will be plenty of business for multiple smartphone vendors for the next few years so it is quite possible both rim and apple can coexist and prosper simultaneously. (ps. don't tell that to any of the apple fans here, they won't believe it)
and remember the best technology does not always equal the most mkt share. many factors affect ultimate end sales.
Points Off for Windows? Assailing the 'Macs Are More Expensive' Assumption [View article]
@Levin70 - how hard is it to understand that Apple doesn't ship junk. a $300-400 computer is made of junk components and will have a shorter life, requiring replacement much sooner. besides, apple chooses not to serve the low end of the market and starts in the middle and goes up from there. an $1100 all in one iMac with a 20 inch screen and very good specs is not the high end of the market.

it's always fun to see people talk about how the company did compared to analysts guesstimates. Who cares? I'd rather track absolute performance, and this has been nothing short of exceptional for RIM.
The Google Phone: Blockbuster or Bust? [View article]
Android = Linux. this will be more popular with tech geeks. Google has no ambition of being the windows of mobile phones. they just want you to use google apps and search on your phone so they can deliver ads to every phone platform, whether it be iphone, blackberry, windows mobile, symbian, etc
Apple: Analysts Still Diverge on iPhone [View article]
Spoken like a true fanatic. 1. Eric Savitz just repeats reports of what Toni says...usually part of a piece like this with more than one view. 2. I read his research and he is honest analyst - he has had a very consistent and thoughtful view for some time that has limited his target price...and he has been wrong. But this doesn't constitute collusion. 3. Cramer is anyone's guess - I have no idea what's going on there but if you listen to his predictions he has changed his views over time, usually depending on how the stock performs, trying to take profits sometimes and buy ahead of catalysts other times.
This whole notion that these guys are colluding is absurd Besides, them "manipulating" the stock should give you the opportunity to profit, so why wouldn't you welcome it? Ever heard of trading around a position?

and in May no one knew iPhone exchange support was coming? that's a little far fetched...
Toni gets blasted on this board all the time because the only research anyone reads from him here is about Apple, which he has been wrong on for some time. This isn't really fair as he covers more than just Apple. Imagine if people only judged your work by one mistake...

You mean an analyst actually went out and surveyed CIOs to get information about their buying habits? This is a novel approach...
Shhh, Eric, please don't tell all those iPhanatics that will tell you how many Fortune 500 companies downloaded the SDK and please don't tell Michael Arrington either as they all believe it's game over and the iPhone will rule the enterprise and ultimately the world.
Obviously this survey shows us exactly what I already knew...that large enterprises will be dominated by RIM but smaller and medium sized businesses will be up for grabs as personal choice trumps the top down mandated platform choice.

Weak point on Yahoo, really weak. If you think MSFT will perform because Apple is licensing Activesync (or Active-stink as Phil Shiller called it in the presentation) you are way off base. I believe activesync gets them in the game today with exchange users but if they are providing their owns servers to provide push notifications, how long will it be before they create their own integration with exchange without activesync? Just a thought. MSFT is slipping away slowly but surely...

What I can't figure out is why people put up with this stuff when there is a clear and superior alternative out there that gives you the option to run windows if you need it.
