Notes on CDS Market, De-Risking and Re-Risking [View article]
could mr Durden explain what my take away should be from this data? CDS's are not being generated because no on is borrowing? No one is lending? business is contracting and CD's are in low demand. Those de-risking are in in better shape than those Re-riskingtrouble? I look at GECC under deriskers, $70M gross $230M Net? what do these numbers mean? does this imply they have increased their CDS's or decreased them. very confusing!

GE: Jeff Immelt, Please Stop Talking [View article]
If this was the only take away from Jeff Immelt's annual report letter mr Sullivan could find I have to wonder why anyone would pay any attention to him at all. The letter pointed out decent 2008 results, a plan to fortify defenses for a bad global 2009 and position the company for the future. GE is a reflection of the world economy and it's present woes. As one reader commented and Mr Immelt himself stated GE has been around along time thru thick and thin and will weather this storm. To the reader who had his total retirement investment in GE, What where you thinking? As a former GE employee who made a fortune in the GE run up in the 90's and than sold it, (Not because GE was failing but I could not see GE going much higher than $150 and wanted to stand aside to see where the out of control stock market would take it, I am still standing aside after 9 years but am about ready to jump back in, again waiting for the market to come to it's senses.
Dividend Paying Stocks: You Only Have to Be Lucky Once [View article]
I too love the tanker stocks and the dividends. But with oil prices in the cellar and sure to stay there for most of 2009 I cashed in my tankers and am waiting for them to crash as daily rates fall and overcapacity stiffens competition.
Protecting Your Portfolio: A Look at Four Safe Haven Investments [View article]
I sold my GE stock on Friday as I can't stand watching it go down any further. With GE going to the fed window next week there is no telling what is going to happen to this stock. Could end up at $10 before this is over. Although I have taken a a significant loss the market is too eratic fo me, the average investor. I will keep this money in a fixed income device until I see some stability or upward trend. Where we are in the recession is anyones guess but it will surely be late "09" before we see any turnaround. With the GE sale I am now 70% in cash and intend staying there. The remainder of my stocks are high dividend paying and have paid for the stock many times over so I feel no need to sell them. I believe Jim Cramer said this is not an investors market but a traders market. I'll wait until it returns to an investors market and take my %5 in the meantime.
How Gas Price is Affecting Pickup Trucks [View article]
We, the greatest country in the world are addicted to oil and the supply of cheap oil is at an end. Like most addicts we are looking for our next fix and are willing to lie to ourselves to get it. We need to suck in our egos, get off oil and get back to business. I don't feel the least sympathetic toward Detroit as they have had plenty of time to develop the hi-mileage vehicles we need and frittered it away while the Toyotas of the world engineered the Pris. Whatever is driving gas towards $5 will force Detroit to give us what we need or we and they will go out of business.
Comparing the two my bet is on GE. looks like Eaton is at it's fair value today. Similiar PE's. GE div. Kick A.. Jeff E. has positioned the business for dramitic growth in the future. Sorry Eaton no sale here
